sad a piece of my recovery fell out the window
sad a piece of my recovery fell out the window
When I moved out on my own almost a year ago my daughter insisted I take in this stray cat she named Tallulah. Well we moved back home and things have been up and down except my sobriety and her. She fell out the window last night and hasn't come home yet. I miss her standing on top of me at 2am purring. I hope this isn't a sign that things are going down hill.
Lots have changed and my life is pretty good.
Damn kat

As long as you keep sobriety your #1 priority, all things happen for a reason, but like Dee, omens to me can be made into excuses to allow things to happen that are totally in our control.
I am sorry about the cat, but the lose of a cat in the grand scheme of life is only signifigant for a short while. Being upset is part of recovery if we deal with it and learn from it. When drinking I had ever excuse under the sun to drink, today I take responsibilty for my decisions and actions.
A huge part of recovery is learning how to use a different solution then a drink to deal with what life throws at us. Bad things happen in sobriety, how we deal with them determines if they get better or worse, I personally have never heard any one say that problems were solved by drinking, they are either made worse or they are prolonged.

Don't worry not going to drink over this
just sad that I didn't realize how important she was to my recovery from drinking and Bipolar. Just a down day and my mind like to link events together and start the roller coaster moving. trying to tread water just for today.
But thank you all for being here for me it means the world to me.

Please don't think that it's a sign of bad things to come. If I believed that in my life (and believe me, I've had a few NASTY months lately) things were "signs", I wouldn't be here today. It's what you make it.
Hope your furry friend is home soon.

I read this story in "Chicken soup for the Recovering Soul."
It was about a guy who had lost everything and was about to be homeless form alcohol and addiction.
He was a couple months late on his rent and so he would sneak up the fire escape through the window. It was winter time and he saw this stray cat one night. When the guy crawled up to his window and got inside. He looked back out the window and the cat had followed him up to the window and was staring in at him. The cat did this same thing for like a week strait. So the guy finally let the poor cat in. The guy finally started to get himself together. And that cat never left his side. He would leave the window open but the cat never left. So years went by and the guy was solid in his recovery. That cat had stayed by his side through it all. One night the cat was laying on the guys lap and he looked so tired. The cat did. And the guy toild him " Well my friend. You have stuck with me through everything. You have watched over me and never let me down. I will be ok now. So you can go. I will be ok."
The cat shut its eyes and passed.
I know..sappy. But thats what your thread reminded me of.
It doesnt have to be a negative thing I guess is what I am trying to say.
Could be that your going to be ok.
Hang in there.
I hope she does come back tho.
