Requesting all currently available to come sit on my hands for the next hour

Hi all! I have just returned from county detox (and what a tale I have to tell). Freshly home, I m realizing that I still have one hour to walk down the street and buy one last bottle of wine (no one will ever know, right?). The addict mind is a very active beastie tonight. Words of wisdom/ laughter most appreciated! Actually this might require something more along the lines of chaining me to the kitchen table---lol.

Glad you posted. I am not sure about any words of wisdom because I am just starting over again myself. One thing is for sure--you don't have to drink tonight. You can make it through the hour--just keep posting.

Also, you can visit the chat room here. I have found much help/support there.

This can be a "new beginning" for you. Hang in there!

Yep--according the ER it is. According to my body I gots a looonngg way to go. Since I didn't commit myself to some outpatient rehab program that's miles from my home, they just treated me acutely and sent me home with a bottle of atavan. Ohhhh...45 minutes to go. HEeeelllp

Thanks for your support Angelina!

I'm sure that this issue comes up frequently, but here goes....

I have, unfortunately, relapsed (here are the violins playing). I have done many different programs in the past and am very holistic in lifestyle and habit (except for the beer and wine).

I have backed myself into quite a corner this time and have very little money, no steady job and no family members left as support. I am also more frightened about secondary health issues than ever before and am worried about the severity of this detox.

I have found that 12-step programs are like many other social situations for me: anxiety provoking and not at all supportive to my way of thinking and living. I have tried the Western approach to anxiety meds and just found things getting worse (plus you have to eventually detox from those as well!).

Given that I do not have health insurance, spare funds or family members to lean on, what is left to do? I'm scared of Western meds and state funded hospitals, but I don't have a trust fund anywhere that I can dig into for private support. Any advice, suggestions? Any holistic-minded folk out there with detox suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm sorry Soos.

I hope you find it in you not to go down the road tonight. You have a lot of people who believe in you and who want something better for you, but the balls in yr court.

I wish I had something better but I...just don't.

I've had nights where I white knuckled.
It's not fun, but I did it.

I know you can last another 22 minutes.

Yes, 15 minutes now. I'm already working on the story of what the last two days have been like...7.5 hours in the wildest, most hectic waiting room you could imagine, initial treatment in the hallway behind a folding screen, so much atavan injected in my bloodstream that I don't remember getting home. And then back there today for another 6 hours trying to get state insurance and medication. Frankly, I'm too exhausted to go to the store now. And with only 12 minutes left, I'd have to run down there in my sweats and slippers. What a treat for the neighbors. Me? Alkie? Nahhh!!! LOL

Thanks for being there. I'm not sure I could have done that alone tonight.
All the best!

Hey Soosie wouldn't it be neat to have a friend there holding your hand instead of tickling a keyboard ny your self?

I can tell you where to find a sober friend that would be more then happy to do just that with you.

Thanks Taz. As you can imagine, I would love nothing more. AA is not my cup-a-tea (tho' not from lack of trying)...I suspect that's where you were heading, so forgive me if I'm wrong. Most appreciated all the same.

I appreciate all of the cyber support I've gotten here. It may not be a pal with a nice big bowl of popcorn to share, but it did the trick and got me through to another sober day.

Best to you all!

I know that for all of us the first days are the toughest. Addict mind is so prevalent and pervasive. I had a whole routine down, and I am just about to enter into the "danger hours" whereby I feel it is safe and appropriate to go and get my nightly supply (parcel out the beers throughout the day, no wine before 9, etc.--how sick is that?). I've had a lot of "life triggers" today, so the urge is just as strong, if not worse than yesterday. I pray that I will be able to spare you all this self-involvement very very soon! You guys are saving my life once again!
