Reporting for Duty
I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired, so I'm adding myself to the ranks of newbies. I've been a lurker on the board for a long time, but I think it's time for me to take some positive action towards sobriety. I'm looking forward to getting to know you folks.
Thanks for the nice welcome. Thirty minutes to go, and Day 1 is in the bag. It will be nice not to wake up drunk tomorrow.
A little bit about me - I'm 40 years old, live in Texas, and I've been been a heavy drinker since my teens. I graduated to hiding bottles and drinking in secret three or four years ago. I've kept my job, but watched my career prospects diminish significantly. I've added 30 pounds over the past two years due to alcohol, poor diet and lack of exercise, and I'm approaching the age my dad had his (first) heart attack. Add to that depression, anxiety, a healthy dose of self-loathing, and that's my story in a nutshell. I'd like to think I'm past the point of denial, but even in this post I find myself putting the best spin I can on myself.
Anyhow, thanks again. See you tomorrow.
