What should I make of this?
Good for you!!!
That guy sounds like an ass. I have had a similar experience where one of my so called friends thought it would be funny to spread a rumor around the party that I was pregnant (why I wasnt drinking)
Anyway, dont forget: people who you used to drink with may feel bad about themselves when they see you not drinking. Cause if they wereou drinking as much as you were and you no longer do that, it makes them look bad.
Its thier own problem, dont pay any attention.
Again, good work!! I love to hear about people making the right choices for themselves, especially when it involves kids, BBQs and drinking and driving.

I'm sure it's already been said here, but it sounds like your "buddy" is whining because he doesn't have a drinking buddy anymore.
I used to do that to people all the time. I was such an a$$. I wouldn't leave the non-drinkers alone...I wanted them to drink and have as much "fun" as I was having. I was always the one drinking more than everyone else and hardly anyone could or would keep up with me.
Ugh. Your friend needs to grow up.

"Yes, I am going to AA thanks for asking. Oh, I have a seat reserved with your name in it right beside me"
or
"Yes, I am going to AA thanks for asking. The people there are wondering when you are finally going to admit you have a problem & show up"

My brother and my 2 sons and 3 Grandsons participated
in sports....both sponsored by their schools and civic organizations.
Their playing spanned many years and 10 states.
I am appalled to know that alcohol is present at any
function where children are being honored and present.
That was not the case when I was involved with those activities.
How utterly disappointing.

Hey... That would have been a good comeback... "I am trying to set a good example, I thought this event was to honor our children!!"

Mark...
I'm getting on the phone tonight ...2 of my Great Grandsons
are now playing team sports. One in Fl. one in Mo.
Their parents are non drinkers. I am certainly going to find
out if this situation is in their areas.
Perhaps it is not everywhere? I
