Saying Goodbye

I have been posting here for around a month. I have tried to quit drinking and failed several times. Tonight I am saying goodbye to alcohol. I will not see you tomorrow, to start with. I am ending our long relationship one day at a time. You have been in my life for 25 years. Our relationship has got me nowhere. I am the only one that can end the relationship. I know I am going to miss you at first, but hope those feelings will fade as the days go by. I am sure I will think about you, but I know that our relationship is toxic. I dont want you in my childrens life anymore, and I want to show them by example that you dont need you to be in a life to have fun, escape problems or deal with stress. I will do whatever it takes to keep you out of my life.

Thanks to all of you here at SR, I am going to try to continue to post and read all I can to stay sober. I called about out patient treatment last week. I didnt make an appointment, but its a start.

Great post!! I'm glad you made a first step in calling about out patient programs. What is stopping you from making an appointment?

igottobesober 07-12-2009 07:53 PM

I invited my old friend alcohol to stay one more day. I set out for it to be gone , but gave into the cravings. So here I sit drinking my 5th beer, whishing I had just said no. I am going to finish my beer and go to bed. I am going to wake up tomorrow and try again. I think I need to make the appointment for treatment. I am not going to give up.

Igottobesober,

We have all had relapses and it is true strength to be able to keep trying to quit. It will eventually stick. Stay on SR and keep posting. Good Luck. We are all with you.

Thanks. I did one of those "good-bye" letters as part of treatment when I first got in. If I were you, I would print it out and keep it handy for when you are feeling squirley and the phone gets heavy. Nothing like your own words reminding you why not to drink.

igottobesober,

i'm with you. it's hard, and there may be set-backs, but we can end it here and now. keep posting, and i found that aa meetings are so powerful because you are looking people in the eye, and experiencing the strength it takes to remain sober first hand. i've only been to two so far, but the residual impact is still with me. honestly, there is a spirit and energy i never would have expected.

be well,

bh

So... what is the plan for next time, what are you going to do differently?

I know it is very hard, that is why you need a plan.

Take Care,

NB
