You know you're in recovery when...
You know you're in recovery when...
You hear a character on TV called Mrs. Jaeger and your next thought isn't "Meister."
Would have been me thirty days ago, a little shot of it in my hand as I watched!

when i wake up in the morning and my first thought isnt about me......
when my wife starts leaving money round the house
when my current doctor doesnt know me by my christian name.
when i pray for knowlege of his will rather than for parole/bail.
when my mother stops crying and starts to look younger than me...
life has changed........people around me have changed.......thankyou for reminding me.

when you are looking forward to your second..
cup of coffee in the morning, are actually "Jonesing" for it, and not a beer!! and instead of "counting" how many beers are left for the day, you are instead "measuring" how much java is left in the pot before you should make another!
Are unafraid to answer the telephone, day or night, because you know you are speaking clearly, not stumbling or slurring over your words, and can remember each and every conversation clear as day!
You can have a normal conversation with your child, and/or take them out on the spur of the moment, to do an errand, to lunch, to play on a nice day, and never worry if you're driving okay, that you have booze on your breath, or that you will get pulled over. Because you're not drinking!!!
You look out the window in the morning on a beautiful new day and thank God, silently or out loud, for yet another clear-headed day to make the most of, instead of wishing you could just make it go away or crawl back into bed.
You look forward to weekends instead of cringing when they approach, as a true relaxation time and days to enjoy with your family and children, not as a test of how to stay sober.
Coming here everyday instead of "counting change" to see how much booze you can buy for the day and/or what time the liquor store opens!!
:ghug
Great post! (29 days for me today! Life is good!!)

When you recognise the guy looking back at you in the mirror.
When you know how you like your eggs done for breakfast
When you forget your dealer's phone number
When you start hanging around "normal" ppl and don't feel weird abt it.
When you know what AA and NA stands for
When you can identify your mood and your emotions as you go through them and you dont have to numb them
When you start acknowledging the value of each day and embracing it
When you look forward to going to a meeting on a Friday night, and passing 10 pubs on your way there and not giving a **** abt it
When you no longer care about the price of alcohol
When you freak out when going to a bbq or a party bcos everyone will be drinking.
When you have a sponsor
When everyone gives a hug at a meeting and they ask you to keep coming back (for more hugs)
When you are not embarrased to refer to yourself as an addict
