Im going to try and quit at home!
Hi, ok so im sick of waiting for residential detox. Im going to quit at home when i have spoken to the doctor. What type of medication should i be looking at getting and what sort of amounts should i be taking?, i would prefer this to be as painless as possible and i especially dont want to cause my parents to much hassle detoxing.
I would just like to mention i will still go into detox but need to at least attempt to quit at home even if its just a few nights off the booze i need a break from it so badly now.

Your doctor's in the best position to answer all these questions New Horizon.
Its pointless for anyone here to give that kind of advice and we can't anyway by Forum policy.
Do check with him or her first. Be honest with them about your usage.

Like everyone else said you should get with a doctor on any medical questions. However, I'm glad to hear you made a decision to stop drinking if you recognize you have a problem. Hang in there, I remember the frustrations I had finding the right help when I decided to stop. Stay persistent to find the help you need from a detox or doctor then jump right into recovery. Sober life can be wonderful, and the frustrations of finding the right help in the beginning is definitely worth it.

Are you still trying to get into a 12 week detox program? Have you looked into getting into a regular 28 day program? Or even doing a simple 3 day program? There might be some middle ground somewhere between a 12 week program and an at home detox.

Have you considered AA?
That's all I did when I wanted to quit drinking.
Not everyone goes into a treatment center.
As everyone has said....Only your doctor can answer your concerns.
It's against SR Policy as we are not qualified to make assesstments.
All my best....

Thank you very much for your responses. I was all set to speak to the doctor today to get some advice and medication about detoxing at home, cutting down has been advised many times although it can be done sometimes when you have had a couple of drinks you get the buzz and need more. I was going to mix lemonade with lager and make a really weak shandy like 1% or 1.5% and i was going to use that like my detox medication. I got some good news this morning i go into detox/rehab on monday my wait is almost over, i am a very relieved person today.
