Been reading
Hi- I've been reading the "Big Book" and wonder if it was written for me? Today, I have 30 day's drunk free! Wow, that's a first for like 35 years and it feels good. Still feel like I'm stuck out in the ocean with no land in sight and treading water wondering how long I can last without going down. Trying to latch on to the 'Higher Power" thing but feel kind of stupid doing it and not worthy. Thankfull for finding SR and you guy's!!

Congratulations on 30 days! I know the big book has a lot of info in it, it can be overwhelming at first. One of the most important phrases to me in the big book is "Progress, Not Perfection." I had to study the big book with other people, and I am utilizing a sponsor to work through it. I didn't get myself into the mess I was in within 30 days and I certainly couldn't feel 100% within 30 days. Today I know a happiness I've never known. There are good days and bad days, but sobriety is the most important thing in my life today, and I have my higher power to thank for it.
i also had resistance with accepting the need to believe in a God of my understanding. i began by making whatever meeting i was at my Higher Power for the time i was there. i eventually chose a Home Group and designated that one as my 'Ultimate Authority' because i intended to be as honest as possible with these people. When i got a sponsor, i became willing to follow direction because i knew he cared enough about me to help me. When i received a service committment, i learned how to let go of my will so that i could do the job at hand. When i began the Third Step, i found that i had already been doing those things it suggested to do and that i had been making progress without even being aware of it.
We are all worthy to live this new way of life! Not just because God is kind or generous, but because we have paid the price for our admission in the fellowship with the pain we have suffered at the hands of alcoholism & addiction.
Take it easy, you will find your way to believe in what works for you.
Thank you very much for staying sober one day at a time for 30 days!
