It's time to confess - comments please
Hi Billy, Welcome to SR!!
You are doing great! Congrats on your efforts. Right now I would still be focusing on not putting any alcohol into your body. The memory reflex to drink is extremely powerful early on and it is very important to have a lot of activity associated with why we don't want to drink anymore. You don't need the distraction of the $50 right now or the stress of worrying about it. Your friends Father just recently lost his son and should not be stressed right now either. I would definitely wait.
If you decide to work the steps in AA this issue would be addressed down the road in the 8th and 9th step. It is very important not to jump ahead when working the steps. A good Sponsor can really help on issues like this.
If you decide you do not want to work the steps make sure you do have a recovery program and stay very active in it. We have to work to keep that memory reflex from bringing back the behavior.
I used AA, got a Sponsor and worked the steps and attended lots of meetings. It has worked and I have no cravings or desires for alcohol, even on a bad day. I still stay active in my recovery today to prevent that memory reflex from popping back up again. SR is a part of my recovery program today.
