I'll play, this is Loch Ewe on the West coast of Scotland, my wife and I had a holiday up there before the kids came along, we were in a caravan by the shore.

Its a sea loch and convoys used to start from there to take supplies to Russia during the 2nd world war. Less than half the boats that left from there ever made it to there destination though due to German submarines.

A lovely place to chill out though, back in them days chilling out involved drinking a bottle of vodka mind you.

Must go back now I'm sober.

Twelve o'clock at night
Streets of many corners
The lunar river winds
Down the closes and the lanes
The night skips the sleeping years
And reawakes the memory
Takes me along the way
To the places of the heart
The days of summer came
Days of many heartache
Not to love is not to live
Not to live is not to feel no pain
So unlock this heart of stone
Teach me the ways of mystery
In the places where they say
Only the brave can walk alone
You took me through this town
And you took me to the moment
That makes angels lose their wings
And makes poets lose their wonder
But I have found in you
A love line pure and lasting
May your heart hold true
And your nights run long

This is one of my favorites:

Love After Love

The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

A poem I wrote many years ago....

while in the throes of my first travels down the road of drunkenness and blackened thoughts......

Sons of Sparrow

Sons of sparrow, gather ye joys upon they,
Merry in stance, rejoicing in dance,
Killing with stake, to murder clear day,
Strands of silkened hair of sun,
Yet no smiling sun encumbers them,
On the journey to the feast of time gone by,
Devouring heart, tears stinging by and by,
Reap ravage, cherub innocence wreak,
Hush taunting voices, they die in sweet sleep,
Insane, wanton, sinners of rue,
Lie upon grassblade backs, toasting, in lieu,
Killing with stake, fallen angels die young,
Strands of silken hair dull in bright sun.

Here's one that I wrote when I was but a boy, before I developed a drinking problem. Wish I had taken my own advice more often... anyway, I took it out of retirement recently. People seem to like it.

Just a scratch recording made in the bathroom, nothing special.

Lyrics:

"Song to Myself"
by CharlieHipHop, 1988

If you wanna get somewhere in this crazy world
Help your brother, help your sister
Teach the little boys and girls
Respect the mothers and the fathers
Love 'em like there's no tomorrow
Never use 'em
Never dirty 'em
and never throw 'em away

(Chorus):
No, don't do that
Don't do that.
It's bad karma
If you do that you will find
That you ain't got no love

If ya' got no money better go on down to work
Sittin' 'round on the couch
It only makes you feel like a jerk
Never just sit a'schemin'
Dimmin' your dreamin'
Never have idle hands
And dontcha make friends with demons

(Chorus)

If it's dark and hopeless
And you're a little afraid
Cast a candlelight
An' find it's not so bad
If you thrash around in the dark
You never know whose face you might mark
So don't lash out stupidly
And don't curl up in fear

(Chorus)
(Repeat first verse if the urge strikes)

I wrote this after that disaster of an election we had in 2000.

THE DEPRAVEN (with apologies to Poe)

During our recent election I was pondering the selection
And the issues that were vexin' half the nation, I am sure.
Which of these two candidates was the better in debates?
Who would least contaminate what Democracy stands for?
'Tis a difficult decision, one that I cannot ignore;
Is it Bush or is it Gore?

Yet no matter who's the victor, something's wrong with the Big Picture
When the big guys only bicker, cast aspersions, trade insults.
One of these will be our savior? Not to my mind! Such behavior!
He would soon be in disfavor with intelligent adults.
Not the sort of leader who gets positive results,
Or whose morals we exult.

Now our country sits in waiting, poll results extrapolating,
Counties still enumerating as the vote recounts progress.
Much to my surprise and sorrow as each day becomes tomorrow,
We can't beg or steal or borrow a solution to this mess.
Who will win the Oval Office is no more than just a guess -
Nothing more and nothing less.

The Frames - Falling Slowly

Lyrics
Code:
I don't know you but I want you
All the more for that
Words fall through me and always fool me
And I can't react

You have suffered enough and what with yourself
It's time that you won

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time, raise your hopeful voice
You have the choice, you've made it now

Falling slowly, eyes that know me
And I can't go back
Moods that take me and erase me
And I'll paint it black

Games that never amount
To more than themselves
Will play themselves out

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time, raise your hopeful voice
You have the choice, you've made it now

We spotted the ocean at the head of the trail.
Where are we going, so far away
And somebody told me that this is the place
Where everything's better, everything's safe

Great stuff everyone, thanks ;-)

I am just going to post my thoughts of today & see how it goes...

Broken Soul

feeling broken today
but not sure why
my memories haunt me
no matter how hard I try

lost & bewildered
sits this broken soul
trying to figure out
how to fill up this hole

I have let alcohol
ruin my life
along with its friends
torture & strife

I need a new plan
to steer things right
to embrace & hold onto
with all of my might

so just for today
is how I must think
to save me from
that very first drink

for today I am broken
yes this is true
but I am still hopeful
of a beginning new

[QUOTE=Classical;2268333]The following is an excerpt from a poem written by the German poet Christoff Kuffner, and was commissioned for Beethoven's Choral Fantasy for Piano, Chorus and Orchestra:

You can find several spectacular performances of this piece on YOUTUBE. Now you'll know what they are singing about.

Hugs to my SR Family!

Here's my thought (one of many):

"If I carry on with this level of boozing, my liver will explode."
and:

"I hate this!" (the heavy drinking).

It isn't much, I know, but I have written poems and songs in the past; mostly to do with my depression and the state of society. Not sure where the poems are at the moment.
