Another Newbie
Good evening to everyone. I've been on here quite a bit the last couple days so I decided to go ahead and jump on board.
I'll try to keep the introduction short. I'm 26 and I've been drinking since I was about 12. My drinking really increased when I got out of high school. The majority of time since then I drink to the point of black out at least twice a week. I have never been able to just have a couple of beers, I'm sure most of you understand that. I've made a couple of half hearted attempts to quit in the last couple years but I can't make it over about a month before I fall back into it worse than before. I've been to meetings and they help but my pride has always gotten in the way and I decide I can quit on my own.
I'm determined to stop for good this time though. I have a successful career that I jeopardize constantly with my drinking, which is reason enough quit. I went to a meeting tonight and I know I have to keep going back.
One day sober so far.
Thank you all for your time. Sorry if I rambled.

Welcome to the SR Family rc
Glad you found us and made the decision to ask for support here & are going to start going back to Meetings. My pride (along with just being bullheaded as hell) got in the way for many years until I finally surrendered and was willing to go to any length for my Sobriety. As I'm sure you've heard many times, just take things One Day at A Time. There is so much truth is those few words.
God Bless,
Judy

Welcome to SR RC!!!! Funny how many of us go to meetings, find the support we need and then that old ego pops us and convinces us that we can do it on our own!!!!
I have heard it said that the most important meeting to go to is the one you do not want to go to!!!
I have also heard it said that one should keep going to meetings as often as possible until they like going to meetings!!!
I can attest to the fact that meetings alone are not the "SOLUTION" spoken of in the Big Book, the "SOLUTION" I found to both my alcoholism and life in general is in taking the steps to heart with a sponsor and then continuing to apply those steps to all areas of my life on a daily basis.
Early on I had folks telling me "Just go to a lot of meetings and do not drink in between meetings." Well they were right for a while, but at 2 months sober I almost relapsed, but I called some one in the fellowship and then got to a meeting. I took to heart what the old timers kept saying "The key to long term happy sobriety is in taking and applying the steps." So I got a new sponsor and started taking the steps with him. Well those old timers were right, for this alcoholic the steps were the key.
Listen at the meetings, be willing to follow suggestions, get a sponsor and take the steps my friend, you never have to drink again unless you decide you want to.

Awesome rc!!!! Great job. You are in the hardest part, from my experience. Keep at it - it gets better and better. Eventually, your whole life changes! Good job and keep up the good work! I'm glad you're here. WELCOME!!
