1st Migraine Since I've Been Sober

It's interesting... I got lots of migraine headaches before I was clean and sober. Today I got one, first in over 8 mos.... I took a maxalt (non narcotic... not pleasant, but not bad...). The way I feel right now would have been plenty of reason to have a couple of drinks to numb it all out.

So, I guess this is a trigger... one I haven't had to deal with. Not bad though, I don't feel great, but I'm not all upset over the triggering... I can just blow it off... recognize it for what it is and move on.

Anyone with similar experience?

Mark

cuby, i had a lot of them before also, and as you just a few in recovery...

and i do remember they were nervous tension induced...

of course, of my own making... lol

Mark,

I've had migraines since my teenage years.

I had the worst time with them when I was drinking.

Now, I pay a lot of attention and if I can catch the migraine 'before' it begins, I find that sometimes taking Advil is enough. But, I have to catch it before the pain really starts. I get a nauseous feeling and I see lights floating in front of me before the pain starts and if I can catch it then, it really helps.

I'm glad you're doing well!

I've had migraines now for 30 years, and they suck! I find the Maxalt works great for me too. :)

The biggest hurdle for me was thinking about the narcotics because that was my relief till I got into recovery.

It got easier with time though.

This one was caused by dark chocolate with a raspberry center... and it wasn't even a drink !! LOL (Jeez, my favorite kind of chocolate too!!)

Yep, too much dark chocolate will trigger a migraine for me. So will lack of sleep, stuff with MSG in it!
