hi all newby here
Hi Ermy, It's nice to have you in the Club For The Bewildered. You obviously accept the fact that you have a problem. I will suggest an answer to the question that my friend Taz asked. In addition to staying on this site that you're going to start attending AA meetings. Right? Of course you are.

Hi and welcome, I'm new here too and it's a great site!
"goodness im really struggling. its taking everything ive got not to go to the shops! "
Please don't let fear stop you from seeking face to face support as well...AA has made all the difference for me.
Whatever you choose I wish you all the best.

ermy if you have no plans then why not give your local AA hotline a call, tell them a bit about your self, ask them if there are any meetings you could attend.
BTW just to let you know, the person answering the phone will be a recovering alcoholic so they will have a very good idea of how you feel right now and would love nothing more then to talk with you and share thier own story of recovery with you. They can arrange for some one to meet you at a meeting, at a coffee shop, or even come to your house, the person you meet will be the same sex as you and will be another alcoholic in recovery.
Think about it, what do you have to lose? A drinking problem? I tried for many years to stay stopped drinking alone and with the support of my family and I always wound up drinking again.
I was unable to stay stopped by myself, once I reached out and got face to face help from other alcoholics who were recovering from thier own alcoholism I was able to stay stopped.
