The kids have gone shopping with mum.

Its cold and raining, still, I've the football play-offs on the radio, Hornblower has just started on TV and I'm messing about on the lap top.

Trouble is, everyone will be back before either the football or the film are finished !!!!!!!!

oh well

There's a historical renactment thingy on tomorrow, at a local castle we're members at, folks dress up like they did back in the 17th/18th century and describe what it must have been like to live as part of the clans.

Local miniture railway is having an open day as well.

Think we're going to try and take the kids to both, so busy fun day.

Both could be cancelled for weather though so I'll not get too excited.

Makes me wonder how I had time to drink my way through weekends, just as well I stopped I suppose !!!!!!!!

Did you know that the Indian moccasin could have originated from Scotland.

In the late 18th century many poor Highland Scots, kicked out of their homes in Scotland to make way for more profitable sheep, emigrated to canada and America.

At that time it was common that they wore a simple shoe fashioned from one piece of leather.

Now these Scots would only have had the Gaelic language and it is thought that this type of footwear took the interest of the natives at that time.

Had somebody tried to ask the Scots about the footwear. they wouldn't have had the language but may have pointed at their feet.

"Mo Coss" is Gaelic for " My foot "

How the word Moccasin originated ?

Got this kind of half idea that I might join a historical society.

Had a good chat with some of the guys doing the reinactments this morning.

It was the Jacobite army at Culloden they were dressed as today, interesting to watch and sounds good fun.

They try and do marches along roads that would have been around during the period and carry weapons from that time as well

Got to handle a Brown Bess musket today ( although they wouldn't let me fire it !!!!! ) and a broadsword.

Ok, I'm just a big kid but .................................................. .....

Just reading that last post, reinacting it sounds good fun I mean, not actually being in the Jacobite army, most of them got killed and those that didn't die got either executed after or deported !!!!!!!!!

I notice in my recipe for Squirrals on Wonkey's thread it says to use a Dutch oven.

Now do you think they are called a Dutch Oven in Holland or just an Oven ?

Seem to remember asking a similar question about American Fridges a while back but can't remember what we decided.

If in fact we decided anything !!!!!!!!!!
