New Here/Introduction

Hello All,

I have lurked around here for a few months while I was deciding whether to make the choice to stop drinking. I decided to stop on my own about 7 weeks ago cold turkey. I ended up in the emergency room then in intensive care for a few days with multiple seizures. Scared me a little, but I thought that I could resume drinking "socially" and remain functional. Of course, around 40 days later, I was sick as ever and ended up in a detox center far away from home.

Anyway, I haven't had a drink since May 1, and am now attending AA meetings regularly with the realization that I have a serious problem that will kill me if I don't stop.

Thats my brief story. I look forward to sharing with you folks.

Congrats on your two weeks sober! That's a great start, and it DOES get better. Just stay sober one day at a time and you'll be fine.

Welcome to SR!:ghug3

Hi Ben, I thought that was you lurking in the background. Glad you finally decided to join us. Nothing like a couple of good alcoholic seizures to convince somebody that they have a serious drinking problem. And of course it's always good to have a few more to convince you that in your case "social drinking" doesn't exist.

You've made a smart move by going to AA. Hope you've found a sponsor by now. Eventually you'll figure out that you'll stay sober if you trust God, clean house, and help others. Works every time. Keep us posted as to how you're doing.

Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement. One thing that I have already discovered after only a week in A.A. is that the overwhelming majority of the people in the recovery community are genuinely good folks who earnestly desire to help other people. This was not my perception prior to getting involved.

Thanks again

Benjamin

Grateful to see your making an honest admission about your drinking!!
Have you asked someone if they would be willing to sponsor you yet?

Congratulations on getting another day sober and keep posting!!
