Boredom
It's my day off work and its raining outside.
I am bored.
I stumbled on this site while trying to find something to take my mind off drinking.
I really really really REALLY want to drink.
Nothing is keeping my focus.
Help!

Boredom is a huge trigger for me also. It is getting easier and I am so much more productive at home and work. One craving at a time is how I am coping and it is getting easier each day. I am reading lots also..
Take care,

Thanks for the advice.
The things that I usually do to take my mind off drinking are all outdoor activities.
I feel very unproductive to be stuck in the house.
And I have worked myself into a frame of mind where drinking is the only activity.

Sounds like Woman of the Woods is a good name... What sort of outdoor stuff...
For Me, it's... Skiing, Hiking, Cycling, Canoeing, Fishing, Hunting.... Thank goodness I am at work, miserable stinkin' weather here in PA...
Good idea loggin' on to SR !!!

I too am triggered to drink when I'm bored. And when the weather's nasty it's hard to find things to do in the house. I watch a lot of movies on my computer and that takes my mind off drinking. But mostly I remember all too well how bad I felt the last time I drank and I don't want to feel that bad again.
If you have no one to call, stay on here. I often come here and read and post when I have the urge to drink. It reminds me of why I want to stay sober more than I want to drink.
Welcome to the family!:ghug3

I can spend hours just sitting outside without an urge to drink.
I'm in such awe of nature and the world around me that I don't want to numb myself.
Canoeing would be awesome right now.
If it weren't raining, that is.
Just taking my dogs for a run through the woods is bliss to me.
Come on rain! Let up!
There certainly is a lot to read here.
Some of it is triggering.
Trying to find the good is hard when I don't feel like trying.

From Aesop's Fables:
Perhaps Woman of the Woods this will turn your thinking from drinking. Please don't give yourself the alcohol today.
The Man and the Wood
A man came into a wood one day with an axe in his hand, and begged all the trees to give him a small branch which he wanted for a particular purpose. The trees were good-natured and gave him one of their branches. What did the man do but fix it into the axe head, and soon set to work cutting down tree after tree. Then the trees saw how foolish they had been in giving their enemy the means of destroying themselves.

I quit drinking during a rainy spell. I walked to my first AA meeting in a downpour. (and to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th....)
My first appointment with my addiction therapist was during a thunderstorm.
I relapsed and ended up in the ER after two months sober.
When I left the hospital, it started raining.
(Okay, okay, I thought: I get the message.....)
I bought a little necklace with silver raindrops to remind me of my sobriety....

I cannot remember the last time I was bored; it had to have been some years ago. Now, I am not always doing exactly what I would prefer to do, but I am not bored anymore. If you are interested in how I accomplished this, please do not hesitate to ask in a PM. Of course, the solution to diminished boredom does take some effort and a great deal of personal honesty, but if you are willing, I would be happy to share.

Glad you found us.....
Welcome to our recovery community.
Why did you decide to quit drinking?
You could make a list for yourself
of the Pro's and Con's
then it would be a reminder to stay sober.
Best of luck...please do keep posting with us
