Who needs sleep? Not me.

Aysha 04-01-2009 11:06 PM

I am right there with you. Been goin like this for about a month now.
I am so dead tired right now. But as soon as I hit that bed. Wide awake. CAnt get comfortable. Mind goes a thousand miles an hour.
But sitting here I will start to nod off. I was so tired last night. I didnt get to sleep until like 4 or 5am. I remeber getting up to use the restroom about 6 am and I fell asleep in there for a few minutes. LOL Thats how tired I was.
Try some meditation sounds. I got alot of great ideas last week. Go on youtube and search for it.
Hang in there.

and oddly,is was falling a sleep that got me in this pickle

mtnmagic 04-01-2009 11:37 PM

Joining the "Can't Fall Asleep" Club here. Argggghhh. I know my sleep patterns are all screwy and I try to be patient and tell myself nobody died from lack of sleep and even that it is my own fault for relapsing, but welcoming the dawn still awake every night is just getting old!

Jules62 04-01-2009 11:39 PM

I go to bed....fall into a deep sleep but am wide awake at either 2 or 4am and I have absolutely NO explanation for it either. It just is.

I've tried going to bed earlier, going later, hoping I won't wake up till 6am.....nada.

It may be part of PAWS?It could be a lot of things. But I do know that it's hell to go through your days feeling half awake and half human in the process then going to bed at night dreading what time you're going to wake up again.Ugh.You have my sympathy.

I thought it was just funny grad student hours. Maybe there's more to this lack of sleep thing than I thought...

l know what you mean.
Mind doing 1000 mph, tired but can't sleep.
Eyes burning the whole day, feeling horrible and nervous.
Knowing that a few drinks would calm you down, but that is not an option.
Wish you the best of luck.

I don't know if you've tried any sleep-aids but I use Melatonin on occasions. It's all-natural over-the-counter. It seems to work pretty well for me most of the time and I definitely prefer taking it over the Ambien I was perscribed as that can easily become habit forming itself.

Unfortunately I'm all out tonight lol. It's about 4am where I live still wide awake watching a movie. Probably still be up when my younger brother and sister head to school.

bottleslave 04-02-2009 03:42 AM

I second zandre's recommendation of melatonin. Helps sleep onset and doesn't leave you feeling groggy in the morning.

You might check out the Insomnia forum on this site. It doesn't get much traffic though.

Sleep disturbance following abstinence from alcohol typically lasts around 5 weeks. Hang in there.

I completely empathize with the sleep thing. I know that you're body doesn't get "good" sleep when you're drinking, but I didn't feel sleepy during the day like I do now. I was thinking that I wanted to cut back on the caffeine, but I am seriously needing two cups of coffee in the morning these past two weeks. I figure one thing at a time, I'll worry about the caffeine addiction after I've been sober a few months.

I just try to be productive in my insomnia. Lying in bed when I can't fall asleep drives me crazy, and meditation/deep breathing etc has never worked. So I read until my eyes are heavy, or I do laundry at 1am or something.

Stay sober, work on change, clean your side of the street, eat right, exercise, but make sure you exercise several hours before trying to go to sleep.

Sleep will come in time, sadly time does take time.

Aysha 04-02-2009 07:38 AM

I am so tired today.
I am only getting a couple hours a night/ morning.
I have been up until like 4 or 5 am the past week. And gettin up at like 7 or 8 am. Up alll day and night. Its getting exhausting. Fell asleep on the toilet again in the middle of the night. I know TMI. Maybe I should grab a pillow and just stay there next time. Might get a good sleep.

Hello Xge910,

Nice to meet you! I have now been sober for 3 months. It took me until almost the end of two of those months to begin sleeping again. I can so understand your frusteration of no sleep and also all you others who are struggling! It feels like it will "never come back" but I promise it will in time.

I have tons of allergies and I take 2 non-drowsy Benadryls about two hours before bedtime. One for my allergies and two, they do make me kinda sleepy. About a half hour before bedtime I take 2 melatonins (yes! they are completely natural) Melatonins help to "Regulate" your sleep pattern once you are asleep and I find they really help! I read hoards of information re: the Benadryls but that is all I take of those and my doctor knows it so I do not feel I am addicted or any other wiered thing like that. As I said, I also have bad allergies and they stop me from sneezing attachs in the middle of the night...most times! LOL

It is very important to realize that ones body is going through a multitude of changes in the beginning stages of Sobriety! I know that is little consolation when you are Dogg Tired but at least sort of an explanation. Please just "Hangeth Thou In there"! try soft meditational music or other things and stay sober...it will eventually come back to some kind of decent pattern. I also started to read for an hour or two before sleep time "IN bed no noise etc." and that sure helped.

All the best to you xge910 and everyone else!
