Smile Delirium Tremens

Hi Everyone
I am just so happy, I was at an AA meeting the other day and heard some people talking about hallucinations when you quit drinking. I had never told anyone, nor would I have, and I didnt put it together with the drinking, I just thought I was going crazy!! lol What a relief to find out this happens to many of us.
Just had to share.
Thanks

the DTs were like a devil took over my body. The week following whenever I would get to sleep a demon would threateningly talk to me, fans or any noise in my apt. turned into threatening voices, things in my wall would move. It quite was like going crazy.

DTs are nothing to mess around with, up to a 35% mortality rate if untreated. That's like Russian roulette with 2 bullets in a six shooter instead of 1. The mortality rate is reduced to 5% when medical treatment is available.

So if anyone goes through this or knows someone who does, get them to the ER.

Apparantly there are two types of withdrawal hallucinations - dts and alcoholic hallucinosis..I had the latter and although irritating my hallucinations were actually quite fun - despite the fact I thought I was gonna go schizophrenic after. I heard the most beautiful singing I'd ever heard, and heard really good songs from out my window. Then when I heard these gospel singers I thought in my head the words they would say like inspirations stuff "you can make it" and stuff like that and they started singinh those words...all of this was hallucinations and went away within a couple days but man, I miss those imaginary singing ladies...

My understanding is that alcohol puts our frontal lobe, the part of the brain that we dream with, to sleep. After a severe bender, we actually dream while wide awake. The dreams, of course, are normally "nightmares".
It can be very dangerous. It certainly happens to many of us but still needs to be addressed by a physician.
All the best.

I read somewhere the DT's is due to dehydration and as most of us know: alcohol is a diuretic... you drink a liter of "drink" you pee 2 liters of fluids..fluid up

Delirium tremens is a severe form of alcohol withdrawal Henry - drinking a lot of fluids is not going to make a lot of difference.

Anyone concerned about themselves or a loved one needs to seek medical attention.
