Early Recovery Question...seeking answers
Hey All,
I'm currently at 38 days clean and sober. First 5-7 days of not drinking were a withdrawal agony.....now its a little different. Does anybody out there ever experience ( or experienced) random body aches, muscle pains....physical stuff like tingling hands or lower arms? How about lightheadedness or a feeling of being "disassociated" at times. Sometimes I can work myself up into a real anxious place when these things happen and kick off an anxiety/panic attack....and thats not good. BTW...am under a doctors care...she says everyhting seems fine ( BP, stuff like that) and that my symptoms are withdrawal and anxiety related....but you know how we addicts are.....trust no one.....any one else have odd symptoms in early recovery? FYI...I drank LONG and HARD.....Thanks

Yes, especially the tingly feelings. You need to see your Dr. about that. Years of heavy drinking can cause nerve damage, and this sometimes manifests itself in this way. Serious cases result in alcoholic neuropathy.
Alcoholic Neuropathy
The pain thing I also experienced, and in my case it turned out to be arthritis. I never felt this while I was drinking and my Dr. said I was probably unable to feel it because of the alcohol. I tend to agree.
I am not a Dr and cannot diagnose anything, this was just my experience. Go see your Dr.

This is my experience with withdrawal......
But firstly please go back to your doctor if your concerned or get a second opinion..
After the main withdrawal which for me was in hospital.......rarely without medical supervision anyway..
For i guess about 6 month on and off i experience what i call "last gasp" withdrawal symtoms...
Range from....night and days sweats....periods of say half hour just pouring out of me.then it would stop as quickly as it started..
Acheing elbows..shoulders...lower back...fingers...all on and of.
Intense mood swings.....wanting to kill someone one minute and cry the next.
on and off again.
Huge high and very deep lows........i still suffer from MILD depression...no big deal for me....i talk about it and its normally gone within a week..
Some anxiety...rangeing from mild.....to panic attack...twice badly if i remember right.
Some sexual disfunction.......enough said........but it got better....alot!!
thats the main ones i think.........
THIS IS ONLY MY EXPERIENCE ....I AM NOT A DOCTOR.
doctor told me to drink water like my life depended on it and come back if any of this symtoms got....unbearable.
I never went back because with time they all ...or nearly all went away.
There is something called PAWS.....but i have no knowlege of it.
Carol or one of the other will be able to direct you to some reading material..
Oh and congatulations on your sobriety.........god bless......trucker

What helped me but did not totally eleminate things you are talking about were a balanced diet, exercise, multivitamins and a B12 Complex daily. It take time Rob and time takes time.
