I have always wondered

why people chose their particular screen names???!! I chose mine because, when I found SR, I was reading "Eat, Pray, Love" and was drawn to her self-description. I could relate to being torn between seeking and hiding. Anyways, I have periodically thought of changing it (because I am in a different space now), but know that I can't because it would be very confusing if people did that. How would we keep track of who's who? BUT, if I could, I was thinking "quixotic" might be nice, or "aspiring".

I'd love to hear others ideas...

I'm not very inventive.. Mine is the first letter of my first name, then my last name, then the day I was born..

Mine's my first initial of my first name and a weird shortened phonetic version of my last name.

Mine is inspired by the band Slipknot (the most mis-understood band in the world), they call their fans maggots. I am a fan of Slipknot because their music is so inspiring and has helped me through alot of rough times in my life. The other reason that they inspire me so much is because almost all of the band members have struggled with addiction and beat it. So whenever I think of myself as a maggot it gives me inspiration and hope, because if they can do it I can do it.

For me it was kind of an affirmation - that I would want to be kind and birdlike (less inhibited) .. thought it would feel good to key it in regularly.. After I chose it I wondered if it sounded like I thought I was a kindbird (I aspire to be a kindbird)..

If you could change it (not to say that you want to), what would it be? Or were there other ones that you considered?

Silly thread, I know, but I've always been curious...some are obviously variations on names, some depict a current mental state, some a vision of whom they would like to be..

Ditto, I love sailing and my name is John so... I was somewhat stunned to see that the name was available when I registered here.

Not a silly thread at all, we do this often and it's fun to see how everyone comes up with their names.

Contrary to popular belief, I did not take mine from the dog on the old Jetsons cartoons! I'm an amateur astronomer, so it reflects my love of all things in the universe. I use the name Astro on a paintball forum that I frequent too.

Cubile is a nickname I got when I described a hangover to a friend, many years ago. I felt like (and was dreaming) that lead cubes where being stacked inside my skull. I graduated High School in 1975.

I have felt like changing it, but, yea, it would be confusing. So I just sign off as....

Mark

Mine has evolved from the Lynx wildcat, I have always loved and admired them and all my screen names have been some variation of this except for once I had an aol screen name called "IceColdOne", lol. Don't need that one anymore.

I had my name because I was desperate to be sober and I wanted it for me.

So I thought having that name would remind me when I signed in that I'm not sober for anyone else ultimately. It's my choice.

I honestly couldn't think of anything, so I simplified it in my mind, what did I want my name to be? Original.... so, Original became my screen name here.
Probably Ironic in some sense, but no-one else has that name here, so, I guess, it is!

I think to much, I think, perhaps?
