New to this forum and sobriety
I honestly have no idea where to start. Or what exactly to say.
I almost hurt two of the dearest people to my heart driving drunk last night.
I've been a pretty good career binge drinker and driver for my entire drinking career, zero DUIs with constant driving under the influence over the last 12 years.
I used to think this was a feather in my cap, today I realize how ignorant I've been.
Both of my parents are addicts, and i've always been considered someone who "made good" out of a tough upbringing, I never thought i'd end up like them.
I badly want this to end, I want control, I have no idea what i'm supposed to do.

First welcome to SR, and you have already said enough"I badly want this to end, I want control"
the first step is to realize you want that control not because of what you "ALMOST" did to them but for what you HAVE been doing to you......I dont know it all but I will tell you I have made it 633 days today by taking it one second at a time sometimes not even one day........good luck and that first step was the hardest, the rest is easier from there.....
step away from the rest of your drinks tonight, it will be hard, just keep posting or go out and have fun with the family, do something different than drink......Keep posting....it does get easier.....
Hugs,
Pamm

Welcome HK.
Are you planning on quitting drinking?
If you are there is plenty of support and info here.
If you are not please never drink and drive again. You are indeed lucky nobody got hurt.
All it takes is one little mistake, yours or even someone elses for disaster to strike.
I had a DUI a long time ago and had to go to a program.
One of the speakers was a man confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
I have never driven with any alcohol in my system since.
I hope you decide to quit as it sounds like you have a problem and we can help but if not promise to never drink and drive again.

I honestly want to say, "No I quit, I'm sober" but i'm horribly afraid to say that and then fail =\

Just try to do it one day at a time.
I know only too well that even that is easier said than done. A lot of us struggle each and every day and to be honest I know I wouldn't succeed at your age.
After my DUI in 1986 ( nobody hurt) I went four months then went right back to binge drinking until this year.
Lots of people falter but each time they string more and more days together until they succeed.
If you want it you can do it one step at a time.
Good Luck.
I am glad you are never going to drive well drinking again. Spread the message to your friends. As you know now it could possible cost someone their life. Peace.

Welcome to SR, Hobo... Stick around, this is a great place. Thank goodness you're safe right now (I hope you are!), and take it from here.
I have never had a DUI before, but the alcohol was still causing me major problems, not to mention horrible health consequences if I continued at it.
Post, read, hang out.. there's lots of good stuff here

Hi Hobo and welcome to SR. Fubar gave you some good words so I won't repeat them. I hope you'll stick around.
p.s. Don't be afraid to "fail". Any day you spend sober is better than a day spent drunk. Stack those sober days together one at a time.

Finally
I am an alcoholic and I am 20. I finally FINALLY came to the realization tonight. I don't know what happened. It just kind of clicked. I am an alcoholic. That doesn't mean that I am a bad person, I have a problem. I need to fix that problem. My school mandated attendance to a program off campus three days a week for four hours each day. I am finally ready. No longer will I not believe my friends when they tell me I am not a normal college drinker. I am an alcoholic.
Welcome HK and Maximus! You can get and stay sober. An honest talk with your doctor can help with the process of detoxing, as coming off alcohol can be dangerous, besides really unpleasant. Staying sober is harder, as old behaviors and habits and attitudes need to change to stay sober. The many support programs for sobriety can be a big help also. The best way to stay sober is to just stay sober one day at a time. Don't drink today.
