Day 2 and a newbie here
Hi everyone, today is my second long day without a drink. I'm feeling a lot of anxiety, but reading the forum here has really helped. Look forward to talking to everyone in the future. Lynx

Welcome to SR! Glad to have you here with us. Please keep reading and posting and I'm positive it will definitely be a big help. It helped me a great deal when I sobered up. Once again, Welcome and glad to have you here!

Thanks!
I want to thank you all for your encouragement, I'm meeting with a counselor next week. I think i'll be on here a lot. Does anyone use this forum/chat instead of going to AA meetings? It seems to help just knowing I have started the clock. Lynx

OS is for obvious sweets. I am trying to beat my sugar demons at the same time. There is a thread for it in another section. But if I get 30 days sugar free I am going to treat myself and start at day one there. Relapses appear to be more acceptable in the OS section.

It is a good idea to tackle the sweets later. Right after I quit drinking I hit the chocolate box big time along with sugary coffee. After a month of being sober I figured I could do both before I gained any more weight and so far so good.
If you find yourself eating more sugary treats don't worry. This too shall pass if you want it to.

Hi Lynxster, I am happy to hear from you! Today is my day 3, and I'm trying to best my effort from last month, which was 8 days. It is extremely hard to quit by yourself so it's glad you found us. I am happy to know that there are other non-judgmental people who understand the pressure of quitting drinking. I did attend some meetings last month but found them not to my liking so I am coming here instead. I think in some way it's better, for me, anyway. Maybe it was just the groups I met, but some of the AA people were really scary to me so I like the safety of my computer screen at home. Keep it up; everyone's rooting for each other.
I forgot to mention that something that proved to be really helpful for me was drinking TONS of water. When I have quit in the past, it has been very very good to have a belly full of water. It defeats the purpose of drinking, too, since any alcohol that hits your stomach will be watered down.
Welcome!
I went to one AA meeting, that was my first day of sobriety. I use this forum only. These great people save me on the weekends. After one month of being sober, weekends are still tough. So when that urge hits me from out of the blue and I'm right on that edge of thinking I can "just have a couple", I post here that I'm about to, and they always say the right things to stop me. It has worked for me so far....so...talk to you this weekend maybe???

Heya Lynx.. Welcome! I don't use AA, but I don't use this site "in place of" it.. AA isn't part of my recovery. Folks around here are awesome, it's a great place to turn to chat, post, read, share experiences, laugh .. Hope to see ya around! There are chat meetings (all programs welcome, not program specific..) that are helpful sometimes too, depending on what you are looking for!
