hi - just began my journey

Hi all,

I think this is a wonderful site, I only just recently discovered it and think its such a great resource. I wish I had discovered it sooner.

I started drinking as soon as I turned 18, went straight to the hard stuff. My first liquor purchase ever was a bottle of vodka. Since then I've been drinking for 7 years now, it caused me the loss my friends, damaged my relationship with my family, lose my girlfriend, and I've been unable to hold down a job.

I'm 25 now, and have been sober for 4 days. I never want to drink again. I want my life back. Even just these few days have been difficult, especially since I"m unemployed again and rapidly running out of money to pay rent. Its so tempting to just drink my worries away. I'm trying to stay optimistic and remind myself everyday what alcohol has done to my life.

Its very encouraging to see how far so many of you have made it on this site and gives me hope that I can too.

thanks for reading.

Hi! and a huge welcome. 25 is very young when you're my age. You can do this deal! I would suggest sticking close to this forum and talking to people. You are on your way with four days of sobriety. At some point, you might find the need to reach out F2F with other people. At any rate, good to have you here.

celx,

Welcome to SR. 4 days is a great thing so be thankful for that. SR is good for support and encouragement so make sure to keep comin' back. We'll be looking for you. Stay on track with your sobriety because things will get easier as you build more time between you and the alcohol. Keep going you can do this.

Welcome!

I'm always glad when the young people decide not to ruin their entire life with alcohol. Much smarter than I was.

Stick around SR. It's a Great Place.

Much smarter than I was, too. Hi celx - you've gotten all the bad stuff out of the way early, now you can concentrate on having a wonderful life. When I was 25 I still had no clue what hell was in store for me. I'm glad you'll never have to feel the pain that many of us did. Welcome to a wonderful place that helped save my life.

thanks for all the support everyone! i'm on day 6 now and feeling good, I had almost forgotten what it felt like to wake up and NOT have a hangover..

reading through everyones posts have been a huge help, the cravings are hard to fight but i won't give up. i'm trying to keep myself busy, i'm going to sign up to a gym this week. it sounds like that can be a big help.

about to go visit the family for dinner, the first time in a long time i haven't shown up drunk or hungover. I'm looking it forward to it.

Glad you are doing well. The gtm really helps me. I go 5 days a week. When I was drinking I rarely made the 5 days a week but since I quit I haven't missed a day. It really makes one feel good about themselves.
