non alcoholic beer
non alcoholic beer
well, it does have like .5% alcohol.
but what do you guys think about it? my friend suggested it and it seems sort of reasonable to deal with stupid cravings, but it also feels like cheating because it has SOME alcohol in it... :\

Hi!
We have had so many threads about this.If you want to read about a thousand varying opinions on it do a search for 'non alcoholic beer' and I'm sure you'll find some answers.
As far as I'm concerned? Why bother with it?All it's done for beer drinkers I know is make them want the real thing.Better to stay away from it altogether.

Drinking NA beer to cope with cravings is like lighting a cigarette in a fuel dump, IMO.
I'm surprised this comes up so often, but then again I'm not.
Giving up 100% is hard - especially as a looming concept - but it really is the only way.
I think maybe we need a sticky for this topic?
try searching NA beer maybe - never have searched here much.

Near beer gave me cravings and I relapsed in the beginning of my recovery. And oh what a relapse it was! Now after a year I drink it once in a while but only after doing beer activites like fishing or yardwork. After a year it doesn't give me cravings but than again everyone is different. Just remember you could be playing with fire.
There are so many threads about this already.. someone can find them for you I'm sure.
I have no desire to drink anything that reminds me of alcohol, personally. And it does have a bit of alcohol in it (tho this can be compared to some pretty mudane things like spoiled orange juice etc). I think it's a disasterous idea, but that's just me

A non-alcoholic beer for an alcoholic, humn, what's the point? I either am or I ain't, sowhy confuse the issue. It just sounds safer to me to stick with real stuff, like milk, water, tea, coffee, soda, fruit juice, surely I can find something that will help me get through tonight, if I try. It's the trying part that's a real bi_ch. Today, let's try to stick with the real stuff together. You with me?
I used to really addicted to coke. I would be out of my mind to think it would be healthy or 'normal' to chop up some white powder and snort it, just for the 'feel' of my addiction habits, and not get high.
Amazing what our addict heads tell us makes sense LOL... think this thru

Near beer is about on the level of giving a crack head just a crumb from a crack piece or a heroin addict a tiny drop of heroin in the syringe. Not a good idea is it? In one of my earlier attempts to get sober I bought a 6pk of that stuff, and by the time I was finished with it I was back at the store to buy the big boys beer. So if I were you I would steer clear of it. Try some milk! Good source of calcium and vitamin D, great for protein, good carbs and healthy fats. Lets see if alcohol cam compete with that!
Some of us don't have a problem with it, although I can't say that I ever drink it because of cravings to get drunk.. which would be a futile endeavor. There are food products we consume that have about the same amount of naturally occurring alcohol, so that component is a non-issue. However, other sensory cues can be a psychological trigger, depending on ones mindset.

I think it depends on who you are and your level of addiction. Me, I am staying away from it for at least six months and then I might, MIGHT have one when going out to dinner at Applebees or a steakhouse or something like that. I will never bring any home, it will just be a "going out" thing. I know that if I started drinking it now, it would just be a substitute for real beer and that isn't what I need right now. And that all depends at how I am feeling/doing in six months or so.
I used to like to drink a nice cold pee on a hot sunny day errr I mean beer, more for the effect though ;-)
I don't think I will be having any near beer for a while, I find ginger ale is a nice substitute & I don't feel wanting a drink after having one. Whatever works for you I guess.
Take Care
