two sober alcoholics celebrate 22 yrs of marriage
Hello to you all across the ocean......I just want to share something with you today. MY husband and I are 22 years married today, valentines day. NOw thats special on its own ,but we are both sober too. My husband is 12 yrs and I almost 11. It works.... it really does. We will celebrate tonight. my husband has booked a table in our favourite restaurant beside an open fire and candlelight. We will have the works!!! The only think we will refuse is the wine list. Recovery really is amazing, we have had such a rocky road with one half of our marriage in tatters from alcoholism to the second half which has been wonderful. I feel like I have been married to two different men lol
My husband is on chemo at the moment but we are so hopeful all will be ok, and so far the treatment has been good, although it does get him down. Thank God for AA and the 12 steps I just dont know where we would be without them. I feel VERY grateful today. Now im off to water my roses lol XXXX Happy valentines to you all!!!

Congrats on the many years of marriage as well as sobriety. I hope one day to be able to say both of the things you posted. I want my marriage to stay strong and I want to stay sober. Thanks for the awesome post.
Thank you all so much...it really means a lot to me to have all that positive feedback. I shared it all with my husband. He is not really an internet person but he found it all very encouraging xxxx
Grats! You made my morning as my husband and I are embarking on sobriety together (just as we embraced too many chemical addictions together in the past).
I hope to be right where you two are in 11 years=)

You've turned what could have been a tragedy into a wonderful triumph. I'm so happy for you both, and wish I could've had that sort of success with my first marriage.
I remember the first time I went out to dinner after quitting, I was very resentful that I couldn't have my usual drinks. I fast-forwarded to the end of the evening - how it would be if I did drink, how I would just end up numb & hungover the next day, starting the cycle all over again. However you've managed to do this, Nelco, it's working wonderfully & is a very inspirational story. Nice to have you with us on SR to spread your happiness.
