Least glad to hear you made it back home and are feeling better. I'm praying for and thinking of you. Hope the rest of the day and few to come go very well for you. We all love and care about you here and you are VERY important to us all and we don't want you to go through anything bad at all. If any of us can be any kind of help at all to you please let us know. Keep trying and working as hard as you do and remember that we're all here for you no matter what.

Least's OP and follow-up stated.....:
1) "...I'm going to the ER, my mom will take me, no one from AA will help, they say they cant do this..."; and
2) "...I called the Akron area AA group hotline but they said they had no local phone numbers to give me from my town. So I called a place in town to ask for a twelve step call for them to go with me to the ER, but no one could do it..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CarolD posted an explanation..........:
"...AA members are not trained to do what you need. Your med's complicate the situation. You need a medical professional to help you. Depression is a medical issue as is de toxing...?"
...and bovinePieBear wrote an additional....:
"...I know that there are things that AA just can't get involved with. But they will help you in every way they can... you just need the medical help too..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some folks here on SR have queried........:
1) "Does anyone know why AA members wouldn't do this for least?";
2) "...I don't understand the part about AA, but the important thing is you are going to the hospital to get well...";
3) "...is there some such rule where it's not allowed for another AA member to, at minimum, drive least there?..."; and
4) "...It is sad taht you didn't have a good experience by calling AA..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just thought I'd add a brief, additional explanation--my 'take' on Least's situation (obviously this is only MHO, from my perspective and my perception).
It seems that Least lives in a 'small' community, so the first instinct--to call an AA hotline--was definitely a good one, but unfortunately it was in a different town--Akron--and it appears that perhaps Least's location does not have a hotline,,,,,so Least called a local number (perhaps a familiar local AA group...?). Yes, hotline personnel would have provided persons for a 12-step call; even Least's local group probably would have provided this; however, when detox, with possible withdrawal, is involved, the normal procedure is to get the person to hospital-----but NOT by AA personnel (unless they are professionals), but by calling 911, or an ambulance, or whatever other (professional) mode of transport might be available. Most AAer's wouldn't (and probably shouldn't) get involved with this; detoxing and withdrawals can be very dangerous and if a person is not trained (a DR or Nurse or EMT) to handle all the things that can crop up, a person can even die....and I don't believe anyone (even here on SR) would want something like this to be on his/her conscience. I've worked the AA hotline phones from time to time, and there are procedures for everything, and like 911, we would provide assistance by directing the folks to the professionals who could help them, but we did not do the helping ourselves.
Least's mother being available was the 'best possible solution.' So.....here's to you Least; I hope you're keeping calm, drinking lots of fluids (not alcohol...(o: ) and taking yer meds.....I know you kin do it.
Look after yourself over the next few days Least.
Is there a treat you can give yourself each day to help you through ?
Maybe a new book to read, film to watch.....................
Rest up and get well, try to enjoy it, thinking it will be hard will make it hard.
Good luck huns
Now is a good time to call the AA members in your
home group. See who will be able to give you a
ride to the next near by meeting.
Good to know your feeling calmer Least...
Hi least,
I hope things are better for you right now. All I can say is that you are now officially one of my recovery heroes. In the midst of what must have been an incredibly traumatic and frightening experience for you, you nonetheless took the time to respond to a post of mine to offer kind words of support and strength.
That is real recovery. I'll never forget it. I am quite simply blown away by it. With that kind of strength and spirit, you can make it least (or should I call you most!)
Thanks so much. You have humbled and amazed an old drunk in thre cold Northeast. Prayers coming your way from Boston.
Am feeling a little groggy but not anxious anymore. Maybe can get some real sleep tonight, didn't get much last night. Thank you all again for your love and concern. It means a lot to me!
