Fed up
That's it, I am so sick of this terrible vice and what it has done to my life. My grades have slipped, my physical fitness has gone downhill, I'm calling it quits.
Four to five days was the most I could go without alcohol, the craving for it would overtake me, no matter what assignment I had to work on. I was hoping I could just cut my drinking down, so I wouldn't have to avoid it altogether, but its become clear I can't do that. I don't even care of the social consequences anymore, I just want my life back. Feb. 12th, 2009, hopefully that will be a date I will remember for some time.

I hope that date sticks for you. Stopping this drinking is really hard because our minds are hard wired for it. Please keep coming back to SR. You will find a lot of help here. We are your friends and we'll help you carry on with a sober life.
Peace,
Ken

Welcome back.
I can see you joined this site a while back so I am guessing that it has taken a while to decide that moderating isn't going to work for you. It doesn't work for me either unfortunately.
You have made the commitment now and that is half the battle in my eyes.
Good luck.

Good job on your decision to give it up. You can do it! Just keep in mind take it a step at a time and focus on your school work and physical fitness to keep yourself busy and occupied and hopefully will be feeling better in no time. Keep coming here for all the support and encouragement you need. We're all here to help.

I'm game. This is good I'll have someone with the same date. I know its easy to talk big right now, as I've not yet had a craving, but in 4-5 days I'm sure I'll be on here crying about wanting a beer, but I'm not going to give in. I'm already getting ready to try a few things I've read on these forums, like drink gingerale, and I'm still undecided whether I will give non-alcoholic beer a shot. If I really feel like giving in, I'm going to drag myself into an AA meeting. We can do this C23.
Most that get and stay sober go to whatever length it takes to do so.
The fellowship of AA does work, if you work it.
The 1st step could just be "shut up and get in the car"
Then stick around long enough for the miracle to happen.
