How much have you saved?
How much have you saved?
So today is 12 days sober for me, Longest ever, never going back.
I was trying to figure out how much money I am saving. It's a lot
I figured I was spending at least $20 a day. Not counting the extras I got from the liquor store( lotto and lottery tickets)
So I figured I have saved at least $280 in my sobriety, in only 12 days
that will make approx $700 a month, and get this a whopping $8400.00 a year.
My first year sober I am going to put this money away and go on a great vacation.
How about you guys/gals?

Thats pretty funny I was just going through my debit/credit card receipts for the last few months and up until I quit in February its just littered with booze.
Literally every other receipt is for alcohol
Strangely I can't claim the tax back on booze....

Ya know, I like this subject too. I'm kind of a tight wad, which is an oxymoron for being an alcoholic. "Gotta save money on this food bill dear..." I would say in my way to the party store to buy some booze.
Me...probably saving an 8$ bottle of popov a day....unless it was a "good" day and didn't finish the whole fifth.
Let's see....hmmmm....that's approx...I'm an engineer so I gotta get my calculator...
224$ a month. whew.

When I was going over them a thought passed into my mind( I shouldn't have to pay this credit card bill, I don't drink anymore)
What a waste of money!

I used to try to not think about how much I was spending. But when I lost my job it was pretty apparent when I was spending About $50 a week.
That would never count if we were going out somewhere, because I would order drinks there too.
Wow think about what an extra $2500 in a year could mean. Especially with 3 kids!

I rarely have a lack of cash these days, and it's been great to treat myself to new clothes, books, etc. We eat a lot better too, although I'm still pretty frugal so we don't go out too often. It's just nice to have the money to do what we want to.
I'm also a more giving person, when my kids need money or items for school fundraisers it's a pleasure to give and it feels good.
Donating money to our recovery programs is a good way to give back and be of service too.
about 58 dollars a week on vodka. that equal 3016 per year. i'm loving it. the extra money will just be a bonus. i just went to lunch and was able to have jalapeņos on my sandwich.
i'm not even factoring in how much i'm saving on pepcid ac's. i ate those like m & ms when i was drinking. haven't needed any in the last 10 days.

afallenman, ditto on the stomach meds, forgot about that.
Have a hiatal hernia from lifting years ago....vodka + hernia = pain you dumby
add another 40$ a month I won't spend on prilosec any more...

I am in Canada and booze here is much more expensive than the USA. So yes, I am saving money. Well, not exactly, yet, cause I have been buying "treats" - going to have steak and crab tomorrow night with hubby - he almost cr*pped when I bought it but I said it's cheaper than a trip to the liquor store.
Other 'extra expenses' that could be attributed to drinking
court fines
body shop
hosp charges
lawyer-divorce and criminal
therapist
child support
tv infomercial purchases
STD meds
Sobriety...priceless
