Very true and thats why I bought them A beginning for new and good memories. I forgot, I also bought 2 lamps as well. Changing up the lighting really helps.
I spent over $100 last Friday....that was enough. Ya'll just wrote yourselves a stimulus check! But Back in college, maybe $40-60/night, twice twice a week. That'd be roughly $2080-3120/year. This doesn't count food I didn't need, gas to and from bars, money that fell out of my pocket, ect. Seriously, if you are coming on hard times financially, and you drink, you have yourself freedom right there. And my numbers are very modest.

since i began to get sober in February 2010 (it hasn't been constant perfection). I managed to completely remodel my main bathroom. I could afford to. and i know people get tired of reading it, but I still can make double principle payments on my mortgage. i have a never ending rock wall i have built along the side of my townhouse, it's nicely landscaped (i have to hire someone to do the heavy work, i'm a 55 year old woman). i have new patio furniture and a bar-b-q. I adopted a dog.
We don't get sober for material gain, but i think it is a nice side benefit too.

I quit drinking first then about a year later quit smoking too so my savings are HUGE!
I indulge myself now with a Kuerig coffee maker & spend about $100 a month on top shelf coffee for it!! My last vice & I'm not giving that one up!

So today is day #258 without booze/nicotine.
Since then the breakdown is as follows:
$1,806 saved from not buying beer.
$900 saved from not buying cigarettes.
$1800 saved from not using all that gas driving around country roads smoking&drinking.
So that's about $4506 saved in all, just for those three items alone. We'll say that's roughly $125 weekly. It sure is nice my money is going to things that are not wasteful.

Good grief...
Thanks for this thread. In one year:
I spent about $40/day on wine so that's $280/week = $13,440
Now include girls night out once a week and also once a week out with my dh (where he nursed ONE drink all night) = $400/month= $4,800
Annual cost: $18,240. Ouch.
Now if I had spent $18k on shoes or an amazing piece of jewelry at least I would have something (harmless) to show for it. Or maybe given some to charity?? Instead all I bought for myself was heartbreak and headaches.

I have saved approx $720 in a little over 3 weeks! Though it's
Not yet going to something nice for me, as it is going towards the bills I neglected or ran up! But feels good to not be putting myself further in debt and once I can I will be taking a long needed trip
