Thumbs up TOPIC: If We Want To Quit Drinking, We Are Going To Have To Quit Drinking

Hi Im Sharon and Im an Alcohol.

By the Grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR I havent found
it necessary to pick up a drink of
alcohol since 8-11-90.

For that and you I am truely
grateful.

There's No Other Way........

We have seen the truth demonstrated again
and again "Once an alcoholic, always an
alcoholic." Commencing to drink after a period
of sobriety, we are in a short time as bad as
ever. If we are planning to stop drinking, there
must be no reservation of any kind nor any
lurking notion that someday we will be immune
to alcohol.

This for me is quite true. I had countless
times to quit drinking on my own to only
fail countless times.

Going to rehab i learned that what i
have is a disease of alcoholism. As
with most disease, wheather, cancer,
diabeties etc....they can kill if not
delt with.

Most treatments require daily shots.
A change of diet. Abstenience. From
there to the simpliest of going to
an hour AA,NA or Al-anon meeting.

So i stopped on my own numerous
times during pregnacies, horrible
accidencts, and finally death knocking
at the back door. During several
stops I returned to drink to only
consume more alcohol than ever
before.

Today i know that to drink is to die.
Alcohol...even one drop would trigger
my desire to drink excessively with
never having enough to satisfy my
cravings for it.

So to do is to die. I think i like living
better without alcohol and going to
an hour meeting than to be so
miserable and wanting to die.

Restraint may be hard. Will Power alone
doesnt work......help however from
a 12 step program and faith in a Power
whatever that maybe works well
for me.

To quit drinking I had to QUIT drinking
all together one day at a time.

Thanks for letting me share.
