Boston Beer...

So I went for a walk in the city yesterday with my girlfriend.

We walked around the Prudential Center shops and the around Newbury Street. A friend of ours called up and asked if we would meet her for dinner at the Poor House. Now, neither my girlfriend or I knew what that was, so we agreed and headed over there for a bite to eat.

Turns out it's not the Poor House....it's the POUR House....as in "We Pour Beer and Lots of it!"....

Now this place had a HUGE bar, and the entire decor consisted of Beer related paraphernalia. My girlfriend suggested we go somewhere else, but having discovered that our friend was inside and already seated, we decided to go ahead and brave the Pour House.

Surprisingly, the entire experience was fairly easy for me. I had an amazing buffalo chicken sandwich and a few diet cokes and not only was I proud of myself for not even thinking about having a beer....I was extremely happy when I realized how much cheaper my bill was since I didn't order anything alcoholic!

Woo-Hoo!

Congrats. I too am always happy when I can go to a place that people usually drink and stay away. And yes, the bills are always so mush less.

this is awesome.
i think its a huge step too.
i know Boston from a friend in college and it is just such a drinking town.
if you can say no there, then....you know the rest.

if i can share a similar story...
last night i went to dinner with my in-laws, they have never NOT seen me have a drink with dinner. but since my mom last week, no drinks.
i watched everyone at the table have one.
even being really sad, it would make you want to grab one, but no.
i really think something beyond me has taken over, and im happy about it.

thanks for sharing

Yeah, tpersis, Boston really is a drinking town....lots of college kids with money = lots of bars and restaurants infiltrated with alcohol.

I'm glad you resisted drinking last night at dinner as well.
Not only did not having a drink at dinner save you money, it probably saved you a night of stopping at the liquor store on the way home, drinking some more when you got home, and waking up feeling like you failed yourself.

I'm glad you are feeling happy about your decision to stay sober!

Congratulations on the great news Erin! I'm so glad you could do that and I'm sure you feel much better about yourself as well. I'm sure you're also happy your bill was cheaper. Keep up the great work! You're definitely an inspiration and encouragement to me!

I love Boston. I remember thinking I'd never have fun again when I quit. It's just not so. It's only strange in the beginning, ordering something different. Once you get used to it, you can actually feel quite superior.

thanks again Hevyn

I am grappling with this too. I am glad you reminded me that you can have fun without drinking.
ALL my friends go out and drink. it has been such a huge part of what we do and how we have fun. A lot of my friends are with me though, they are sick of the that scene.
SO many other things to do with time and money....a movie, a cafe, bowling..a museum...

Doesn't it feel good NOT to drop 30 40 bucks on booze?(not to mention the sober thing..lol) Good for you man!

That buffalo chicken sandwich sounds pretty tempting though....

Congrats on a sober outing
