qustion - please help!

i'm 2 months sober today and i've been really focused on toning and losing weight lately. I've been researching a diet supplement - ephedra - and it's sold online. Is it illegal? Will be scammed or arrested or something? anyone familiar with this at all?
thanks,
Rach

I know its illegal in MN, because I used to take it. When I talked to someone at the Vitiman shopee (which is where you can get nearly any supplement)
They said they can not sell it, it is illegal now.

Not sure if thats just here, or if all states have out lawed it?

Ephedra was banned in the United States in 2004.

Dang, Rach... you're a smokin' hottie, you don't need that stuff and probably don't need to diet either... For gettin' in shape, I recommend circuit training. I should probably get on that myself...

LOL thanks hun
it's not that i dont think i'm beautiful or anything..
i just would love to drop a few lbs. - i'm on some medication that causes weight gain and
i exercise everyday for an hour, as well as eat a very strict & healthy diet. i'm hoping i'll get grand (and by that, i mean small haha) results, however, i've heard wonders about ephedra!!!

luckily i am prescribed ephedrine for allergy medication, which i just found a refill for, so i'm sure that's just the same thing!

It's the refined version:

Chemically, it is an alkaloid derived from various plants in the genus Ephedra (family Ephedraceae). It is most usually marketed in the hydrochloride and sulfate forms.
It's also used to make meth...

Right. Ephedrine and Ephedra are derived from the same plant, but ephedrine is 1) not banned (although it does have restrictions in some states) and 2) not used in the same way. It's also got a much lower concentration of the substance that people were abusing. And what DK said... it's why in a lot of states (including mine) you have to go buy Sudafed from behind the pharmacy counter and sign your name in a log. They track who buys it and how much because of the whole meth thing.

It might be a mild stimulant as an ingredient in allergy and cold medicine, but weight loss is NOT a benefit of it in that form. Diet and exercise, baby. Diet and exercise.

Just chiming in on this. I used to take it, years ago, I think before regulation and laws passed that changed everything. People die taking this. I found it extremely addictive, enjoying the 'high', taking more and more.. this is how people have had heart attacks. I did a lot of coke in my past, in a very small way taking ephedrine sped me up just like it. I don't know about you, but when I got sober, I became very disinterested in taking anything that would alter me. Just one more thing to become addicted to.. no thank you! There are perfectly healthy ways to get in shape, I hope you reconsider. Geesh even just thinking about taking that stuff has me anxious.. be careful please!

I remember back in the 60's methamphatamines were legal weight loss supplements and my mother was taking them. I was a young teenager and stole them and took more than the prescribed 11 pill and got high. The best way to get in shape is exercise and a healthy diet. Pills may work on a temporary basis but you will likely gain it all back. I would definitely avoid this drug.

hello?

Um, why are we telling the girl where to get ephedra??? Not a good call. This is a HORRIBLE DRUG and illegal for a reason. Stop trying to find an easy way out. Keep exercising and eating right and you will get the results you want. Sheesh.
