I love the part where you said you gave your family a gift they really matters to them.

One year is sooooooo.....awesome!

And to hear that you don't feel the need to drink. Cravings occasionally...but not NEED...those words are so needed by 'newbies'.

Thanks so much for your post! Congratulations!

Congratulations of your year of being sober. I'm new here, and this is my first day sober. Reading what you have said gives me hope that one day I can say it's been a year sober for me.

Hope for CoF1984

I remember being where you are right now, as vividly as if it were just yesterday. There are two things that someone else told me (as I sobbed, trying to get control of myself after an AA meeting). The two things were:

1) There truly is a solution. There is a way out of all the pain and suffering.

2) It really does get better with time. If you put one foot in front of the next, and you continue to do the next RIGHT thing, you will slowly find yourself recovering.

I held onto those two things. I wrote them out and posted them on my closet door. And when I felt hopeless or lost, I could read them and know that others had come through before me. Others had led the way and all I had to do was follow their voices.

CoF1984 - I'm so glad you are here. I'm so proud of you that you are sober today. We all know how incredibly hard it is in those first few days and weeks. But you can do this. And I'm so honored to be of whatever small service I can be of in your efforts to recover. Stay here at SR.

So inspired by you Mle.I've seen you grow so much on SR over the year(you've obviously worked so hard on yourself.Amazing) but I'm just sitting here going yay for you right now.Thank you for sharing your wisdom and care here.I often read your posts and just nod in agreement.

Well done.Proud of you, and maybe one day I'll be like you when I grow up!

mle, i'm too much of a noob here to have known most of your posts from the past, but with that said, UN-FREAKING-REAL! Inspiration comes in many forms and your story is one of them for myself and countless others. It.can.be.done. Way to go! I find it vastly important to see your desire to drink diminished. The "pull" is still there, but other coping mechanisms are now in place. Cheers and much congrats!!!

Thank you, everyone. I feel truly honored and filled with JOY by your responses! This morning, after driving my kids to school, I was driving home and I found myself thinking about how loved and supported I feel at SR and I just found myself smiling in profound appreciation. So not only have I felt cheered and encouraged in my sobriety, a lot of the time, I've also felt cheered up. Thank you so much!
