I was thinking
and i have to tell you that can be dangerous.
I just posted on someones thread. I was advising distractions and remembered a post I read when i first came here.
It was by Katie09 and called 'things to do at the weekend' (I think) it was on 23/1/09 and is now on page 12. Anyway on it people said things they could do for distractions. Felly79 posted a list of 100 things which i thought was great.
Anyway what i was thinking is.... there is another site i go on (not a recovery site) and on the main page they have a distractions list for people who are struggling to cope.
Is there anything like that here? if not could there be?
It's just we all know how hard it is to think of things to do when were struggling (or think in general) and to have a ready made list might be good for some (it was for me).
The one i was talking about was so long ago it just keeps being pushed down the pages. This one would stay even if no one posts and adds to it.
It's just an idea and i hope i'm not out of line! :praying
Be well

Good idea- I think one of the moderators have to make it a sticky. I think that is how the excerpts from "under the influence" came about. I'm not sure of the politics in here but it is funny how we start thinking of things. I always wondered how this site is funded.

Hey Louis!
I think it's great that you're looking towards a solution to the community as a whole. You've obviously got a propensity toward humility. God bless!
As for you yourself, what did you once love to do? Before you started drinking? The possibility of hobbies out there are endless. I found it useful to bounce my ideas and strengths off other people before I got an idea of where and how I could be of service.
As a kid I used to love having my mom drive me around the city and I'd draw maps of all the streets, etc. To this day I find that I am in love with "urban geography," which is the principle of walking, riding a bike or using non-car forms of transportation to learn new aspects of the place you live.
There is a hobby out there for everyone. Ask us and you may receive.

Seriously, for some there is nothing more satisfying than simply going out of the house for a walk. For me it's a great way to feel in communion with my neighbors. Which makes me not want to drink but to desperately kill all poverty within my local area.

Isaiah
Hi.
I love art...water colour painting, clay modeling and chess.
I can only do the art for others tho.... else i throw then away.
Like most here we are all our own worst critics... but if i do something for others i cant throw it away.
I have always got what i need from helping others...I know that sounds cheesy but its what does it for me.
It's been sooooooo long since i did anything just for me (except quitting) that my head doesn't function that way anymore... I wouldn't know what to do.
