The Infamous Quit Date I am sure this has been discussed MANY times on this forum, but I desparately want to know: Is there merit in finding a "special" day to quit? Like, is it better to quit on New Year's Day or on a birthday than just a Wednesday? I am anxious to stop drinking but for some reason it seems important to be able to say, further down the road, "Yeah, I haven't had a drink since [insert special day here; could be my 40th birthday, could be my son's 1st birthday, etc.]." What do you all think? Thanks! |
Hi Quitter Welcome to our community Glad you are here there is a lot of support and information here, so have a look around and as Trucker and Matty have so eloquently put it, today is as good a day as any... |
hi quitter and welcome to sr...........glad your here Any day is a great day to stop......just make a note on your calendar.. Might be a good idea to run it past your doctor first........just to be safe. and please let us all know how its going.......often. God be with you and keep you safe..................trucker |
Welcome to SR, Quitter. I used to feel the same way about quit dates - I was quite obsessive about it. Eventually, I discovered that it was just another excuse... The "perfect" day to quit is today :) These days, I don't even keep track of time. I have peace of mind, and that's all that matters to me. |
I wasted a lot of time on doing it on a special day, then in the end i quit when i got help and literally could not take it anymore, that was indeed more special a day than any other in my life and i value it more than any birthday, new years eve etc. :c009: |
Welcome to SR. I didn't quit on any specific date. I just woke up one morning after lots of pre-thought and said well today is the day. |
Hi Quitter- welcome! I was pretty tied into the idea of having a special quit date. Either a significant date or a date where the numbers were significant. like 07/08/09. however, the weekend of Jan 24th I spiraled out of control and suddenly Jan 26th was the 'perfect' date. LOL!! I know for some people it is helpful to pick a date in the future and then work up to it. What ever works for you has merit! |
I personally think the best day to quit is TODAY. Today is always better than tomorrow. Peace. |
Just like Snowdog.....I was spiraling.....I was going to wait till after Super Bowl, but once I stumbled upon this site, it was that day.....now I have a NEW special day! Jan.25th, 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Create your own special day! |
I finally threw in the towel when I was truly tired of being sick and tired of getting my a** repeatedly kicked by alcohol and having it ruin & rob my life... Always liked to think of certain dates before that had a meaning to me to quit but as it's turning out, 1/16 takes on a special meaning now where before it was just another day! It's the day I surrendered and faced the facts of my addiction. I took my life back! Glad you found us here! There's always another who "gets" where you're coming from and can support you! We are all in this together and now your part of the team! You can make up your mind to choose to quit anytime you feel like it! And, if you feel setting a date is what you want to strive for -- go for it! Keep posting, reading and reaching out......... :lmao :c009::ghug |
