new to board

Hi. I just found this board today. I'm living in an area that does not have face-to-face meetings for friends and family of alcoholics or addicts. Been using my literature and slogans, but feel myself slipping into that "my problems are special" feeling.

I only want to be special like everyone else

hi longview welcome to SR :) and yes you sound just like me :)

I go to meetings and come to SR for support sanity and to support others, sometimes I post sometimes I read sometimes both, it all helps.

I know Wyoming is a large and sparsely populated place, but I did find this:

Thanks for the welcome, everyone.

Dgillz -- Thanks for the info. The ones listed within 125 miles of me are no longer active. I joke that they must've been real good... everyone got cured! I did get a key, drive to town and sit at one meeting room for about 6 weeks on meeting nights. I think my HP will guide me to either an existing meeting that isn't listed or tell me when I just need to go and sit and wait for another to show up. I'm open.

I still have my sponsor of 17 years who lives 2 and 1/2 hours away, but, she moved a couple months ago and doesn't have phone at her place. We write now.

I know I'm not the only one who doesn't have access to face-to-face meetings, though, and that serenity is still achievable. It's great to find an online community to hear/read fresh stories about how it works. I'm grateful for the internet.

Longview- welcome! If I read your post correctly, you are friend or family of addict, not addict yourself? If so, you might want to also check out the Friends and Family forum Friends and Family of Alcoholics - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information

Glad to have you here!

I know how you feel LV. I feel like my sh*t is special at times too. That is where SR really helped me, seeing that I am not the only one is a real eye opener and helped to give me the determination I need to keep on quitting. Stick around and read read read and don't be afraid to ask for help.
