TOPIC: Our Steps Are For A Program Of Recovery Not A Program Of Sobriety
Hi Im Sharon and im an Alcoholic.
By the grace of my HP and the
fellowship of SR I havent found
it necessary to pick up a drink
of alcohol since 8-11-90.
For that and you I am truely
grateful.
If you heard that the first 3 steps
are all you need, then why do we
have 33 more of them?
Our experience has taught us that,
if something comes up and keeps
bothering us, we must ask for guidance.
We then do a 4th step to find
out what is bothering us. Identify that
problem in step 4, take it to a sponsor
in step 5, ask for God’s assistance and
through being a little bit humble ask to
have this removed.
Then on to step 8 and make that
amend in step 9.
If it is a grief issue, we need to
understand that is human and
to establish a better partnership
with the God of ur understanding
in step 11. Then take that
knowledge and apply it.
Step 11 is not step 3, 2 or
even 1.
We have to use the tools for
that will give us far greater
peace than any of the first
three steps.
The unfortunate thing about the
first three is that they do nothing
to remove the pain, anger,
resentments, fears, sorrows
etc. that we experience in life.
We need the rest of the program
for our recovery. Doing this allows
us to heal and to not repeat
those same behaviors we use to
do when drinking then to think
all we needed was to become sober.
This is a program of recovery
and not just sobriety. Right?
Thanks for letting me share.
