Erica ...
Drinking made me into a woman I detested.
I remember the pain of trying to quit and not being able to.
Then I read a book..."Under The Influence" that explained
why this was happening I finally quit.
Here is a link to excerpts from that book

I so hope you too will find your way into a sober life.

Erica, I just wanted to tell you that I am, or was, extremely shy. I came into AA twenty years ago, and most of the time I was sober, I just kept having relapses. But in those sober years and months, I learned to have confidence and not be afraid of people as much anymore.
Your self-confidence, like mine was, is zero. But you can become the wonderful human being you were meant to be. I, also, was terrible to my partners, very abusive and psycho behavior. It has also taken therapy for me, to heal and get well.
But FIRST THINGS FIRST...put the plug in the jug...and come here everyday and talk.
I am only sober this time since Dec. 17, 2008, I was out drinking again for a couple of years until I just got sick and tired of being sick and tired. Keep coming back!

Erica, please dump whatever alcohol is still in your house. Make this your day one and just don't drink for today. Take it one minute, one hour, one day at a time, but just don't drink for today.
You can do this. You can stay sober. We will help you any way we can. We are here to share our experience strength and hope. I'm glad you found us.:ghug3
Welcome!

Welcome, I'm glad you found this place. I know I couldn't have full decided to stop drinking until I really read all there is to offer here & learn all these peoples stories. To learn I am not alone, and many have taken this journey to a better life. So many people are here to help. What gets me to the next day, is everyday I post & try to learn about all the great people on SR community, because I will feel accountable. And I feel some pride being able to come & post that I am on one more day sober!
I wish you all the best!!! Hope you hang around.

Well
Thank you all for your support. I just went to sleep after the beer. I don't have anymore alcohol in the house. Thats what works best for me. Outta site outta mind...
Today I woke up with that nasty thirsty feeling and really depressed. I slept most of the day. Yes,,,,day one again, but at least I found this site and can communicate with others who understand me and have been through or are still living in this hell.

Hi,
I'm hanging in there. I'm feeling a little jittery but not to bad. I also failed to mention that when I woke up this morning, with that nasty thirsty feeling, my dog peed on the floor and I stepped in it. What a rude awakening. LOL

This made my day, since I was very concerned last night when you left us. It sounds like you're ready to make the big change - congratulations on the beginning of your new life. Be kind and patient with yourself. We're so glad to have you join the family.
