Thumbs up Arms length away from a relapse this morning...

I work third shift and usually get out around 6 or 7 a.m. For the past 4 years or so this time of day was my do or die window of opportunity. If I drank, it would be all day. I would get barely any sleep and go back to work still drunk or hung over. Or, I would get some good sleep, and have a productive night at work. More often than not I would pick up a drink and not stop until I passed out.

Well, this morning, at around 7:30am I poured a glass of wine and set it on my desk. I went through my emails and did some other stuff on the computer, looking at that full glass of wine every ten seconds. I wasn't meaning to test myself, I was meaning to drink it. This went on for about a half hour until I finally poured the wine in the toilet. I really believe that being on this website for the past few days helped me thru what could have been disaster.

I really enjoy talking with you people, and your support helped me thru today. Much love to you !!!6

Good for you MDP. I am a beer drinker so I have no beer in the house. Maybe you should do the same with the wine for awhile. It is great that you poured it out. I am sure it wasn't easy.

The way I see it, I've got two arms. Looking down one arm might be a drink, but down the other arm is prayer & meditation, AA meetings, and all the other tools I've been given to use in my recovery.

Good to hear you didn't pick up. I still haven't heard of anyone dying from not taking another drink.

I smiled when I read that line. It was just so good to read.

Congratulations!!

I love to hear the good stories and that one was one of the best so far.

I'm glad you made the right decision and poured it out. Way to go. But I have to say that it's flirting with danger even having any alcohol in the house.

Get rid of all of it!

Thought: Is it just Friday mornings when you have this dilemma or most mornings? Could you make plans with someone who doesn't drink to get together for breakfast or even just coffee at this time? Some of the hardest times for me early in my Recovery where times like you are describing, when it's a habit as well as a desire.

Be proud of yourself . . . ya done good.

Just Keep it One Day at A Time,
Judy

MD... OMG! What a HUGE accomplishment of strength! You are my hero! I couldn't have done it, I don't think!

I hope you have patted yourself repeatedly on your back for this one, my friend! I'm proud of you! You are showing and proving to yourself that you really want this! Congrats all the way!
