I relapsed yesterday...

:c004: Unfortunately I relapsed yesterday. I had three days clean before that. So maybe it's not really a relapse as I haven't fully accepted the sober way of life yet. I used to feel really guilty after a relapse, now I accept that I am dependent on alchohol and need to get the help I need. Any thoughts?

I applaude you for coming back here and sharing. That shows that you know you have a support structure here and that you are seeking help. There will be MANY speed bumps along the way on the roda to recovery. THis was one of them. The beautiful thing is that you get to get right back on the horse and try again. Just don't drink today, and you will be on your way to sobriety.

The best advice I've gotten regarding staying sober was that I had to want to be sober MORE than I wanted to drink. It took many months of relapsing before I finally REALLY wanted to be sober... but now I've got over six months, so it can be done. Take it one day at a time and just don't drink today.:ghug3

It's very tough the first three four days. Alcohol is out of your bloodstream in 72 hours - a perfect setup for cravings to kick in big time. Today is a new day and you are back so get back on the horse and ride. :)

Don't beat yourself up too much and don't use the relapse as an excuse to feel sorry for yourself and go back to your old habits. Stay positive and you will not relapse again today.

Welcome to SR mdppptro...

Detox is so hard on us. Cravings and physical symptoms the worst.

Start over today..and try to get past this one day..again.

Tomorrow will take care of itself!

So congrats! On starting over.

I go to AA..a lifesaver.

Hugs,

And Good Luck.

I know what you're going through. I made it four days before I relapsed, and made myself really sick when I did. Downed a 750 of Vodka that night. Blacked out, and had a conversation with the (gf?) that I don't remember. Sure didn't help me feel any better, but like with W it strengthened my resolve.

Got right back on, and now I'm at day 7. Try to get there, I know you can. It feels A LOT different than day 3 or 4. Actually functioning and able to think today. Sleep is mostly back to normal. Very worth the effort!

Stop believing you're powerless! If a twenty-year hard-core everyday drinker like me can quit and stay quit... anyone can.

Welcome To SR~ Early sobriety is incredibly hard, but like others said I believe when we are truly ready, we can do it. Stick around and post, read through and see what others have experienced. Know you are not alone. I keep repeating this because we all have something that was told to us that helped us get through those early days of hell...Today can be your LAST DAY 1~

Good Luck

Welcome back! As stated, it is a hard process. But nothing worthwhile comes easy. Recovery for anyone is a WE program. I couldnt do it on my own no matter how hard I tried. I have heard people with 20+ yrs say they still work at it every day but the important part is that you do not drink now! Keep posting and checking in. LOL

Welcome back. It is obvious in your post that you are ready to quit. Have you tried AA or any other program?
