New Here and great site

Hi, I quit drinking on 1/5/09 and did it for a variety of reasons. I realized that it was causing some problems with sleep and a few other issues. I am working with a GI specialist after going to the ER on 12/8/08 with major abdominal pain. They did a cat scan but could not see anything that would be causing the pain. I started to slow down on the drinking then and made my appointment with my GI. I do have a "fatty" liver and the Dr. has pulled a huge round of blood tests. He asked me to quit drinking and go on a bland diet. I am pretty lucky as I have drank for years but my Therapist and my Psychiatrist both do not feel I am an alcoholic "yet" and have urged me to quit. I did not go through the DT's or anything but I think it is such a habit to have a drink in my hand. So, I joined to have a place to go to be able to talk to someone when the urge hits. Well, that is me and I know I have a problem and really need to quit for good. I am just thankful that I seem to be quitting at a good time and not waiting till I have done some major damage to myself.

Thanks!:c009:

Welcome Boxerdude! 'Now' is always a good time to get sober. Best advice ever given me on staying sober was to want to be sober more than I wanted to drink, and to stay sober one day at a time. A day is not forever. Just don't drink for today.

It is good that you recognized the problem before it got worse. Also good you have medical supervision to be safe during detox.

I'm glad you found us. Come back often! There's always someone here.:Val004:

Hi and Welcome,

I'm glad you have decided to live a sober life.

It's great that you are taking care of yourself physically. I know I didn't pay much attention to my health when I was drinking.

Welcome to SR boxer! I know what you mean about having a drink in your hand, just replace what's in the glass with something else, try juices--your liver will thank you. Glad you're here.
