Began 2nd try at Recovery

My husband actually found this site looking for info on antabuse, and I've been looking at it a lot today. I went into tx last May and was sober 87 days. Went to Vegas in August, gave in and haven't been able to bounce back. Backed into my garage door last Friday and was put in detox on Tuesday nite. Not my best behavior, but today's a new day, right?! Looking forward to the support system. This is my first internet post ever, so I may need technical help too! :c009:

welcome seek....

We are in the same boat. I went through a medical detox back in August, strung a few months together, spent the next month right back to where I started and here I am on day 2, again. Let's do this together and make it stick this time.!

sounds good to me

I wud appreciate that - too much time wasted drunk. Can't let it go on anymore. Need to stop while I still have my husband, my kids, my job and my friends.

Welcome Seekin to a great place for support. You can stay sober, you have to really want to be sober more than you want to drink. I was a chronic relapser but have six months sober now, so it IS possible.

Have you considered AA? There's a lot of hope and support there. If you've gone thru the physical withdrawals you now need to work on the emotional addiction aspect. I was an emotional cripple from drinking. I could see how my life was going down the toilet but it was so depressing to think about that I just drank more to feel less.

Now I can feel again, both good and bad. Sobriety rocks! No more hangovers or worries about killing someone with my car. No more hiding bottles and lying to my kids. Sobriety really rocks!

I do AA

I have been going to AA ever since I got out of tx in June, however - about once a week I seem to use the AA meeting as an excuse to get out of the house. I attend the meeting - chat with friends and then went to the liquor store. Pretty pathetic, huh? Oh well - no more. I can only do better from now on, right? I plan on going to a meeting tonight, but no liquor store afterwards!!!

Good luck seek. We are all here to help each other. Getting a new garage door isn't the worst thing in the world but getting a new family is way up there. You can make it if you try. You just have to bother to be bothered. If you falter people will be here to give you a helping hand back up.

Welcome Seek! I have displayed tons of pathetic behaviors as a result of drinking, I understand. As you said "it's a new day" and you never have to drink again. The "appearing" sober but then lying to yourself and drinking, well that is the real soul killer. I couldn't get sober just because I wanted to set a good example for my kids, I tried. The bottom for me was I just couldn't stand ME hungover anymore and feeling guilty and ashamed. Don't give up.

Glad you're here :c014:

This site is great, but I'm having a difficult time trying to figure out where to go/what to read. So much info! My kids are hanging on me while I'm trying to read. Guess I need to read after bedtime! :c033:

Welcome Seekin, getting out of the house and socialising is a good reason to go to a meeting! I love spending time with recovering alkies, they are nuts, lol.
If you are going to get more serious about AA I would recommend getting a sponsor and beginning the steps.
I am not of the opinion that "meeting makers make it" but I do believe that people on the program make it.

Hi seek & you, too, fuggy. I just reached a year yesterday - and yet it's hard for me to say exactly what it was that finally made me have success this time. As prettypoison said, I couldn't stand me anymore - the drunk, sloppy, out-of-it me that I was when I drank. I was also afraid of the health issues I was beginning to have, being older & drinking for ages. The last time I got sober was in '97, and I did it because my son was growing up and realizing how my behavior changed when I drank - how confrontational & obnoxious I became. SO, I stopped at that time for him, and stayed sober for 3 yrs. When we no longer lived together, I started up again. I guess that's proof that we can't do it for others alone and expect it to last.

You both seem to have a determined attitude - I know you're fed up with feeling the way you have been. Surely sobriety has to be better than the hell you've lived in at times. I still have my temptations and nostalgia for the old days, but I always remind myself where the "just one" drink led. I'm lucky to be here at all. Wishing you a happy new life - stay with us, this place really works.
