When you haven't drank, but don't feel sober

The last couple days I have really felt like a 'dry drunk'. I haven't given in to drinking but it seems I have definitely kept my hands busy with other bad things; whether it's bad thinking, or engaging in toxic activities and I gave alot of thought to drinking today.

How does one come out of this?

It's easy to do bad things to ourselves we need to choose to change and do healthy things.

Go for a walk, join the Y, volunteer. see if there are sober groups to hang out at during the time you would use. We have a recovery project that has lots of activities to do.

Yes...for me recovery is all about changes.
It was not just about not having a drink
it was also about developing healthy positive habits.

Early on I quit hanging out with toxic people in bars/clubs/lounges.
I changed from a stressful job with a drinking "footprint"
to an office job ...regular hours.
I quit biting my nails...quit fad dieting...quit dressing like a tramp.
I also ditched my still drinking lover of 5 years.
I committed myself to God and AA.

All those drastic changes? Necessary for my new fantastic life

Hope you find your way L.D. Your worth the effort...

Yes, I'm with Carol regarding the change. Change is all-important.

I had to work had to change my negative thinking.

I also had to change my activities. 'By accident' I got involved in something very, very positive during the first week of my recovery and that helped so much. So, when you are removing toxic activities from your life, look for something positive to replace them with.

it's not just abstenance.. it's an entire life change. For me, working out, being thankful for all of my blessings, and counseling have filled a few voids. I watch a lot more movies, I never talk to my 'drinking buddies', I never hang out at bars or with people that drink. I'm more important than that So are you!!
