Trish, I had a few people who continued to call me even after I had several months in Recovery. . . and they weren't calling to talk about the weather.

As soon as I heard their voices, I would say the same thing to each and everyone of them. "I don't think we have anything to talk about. I'm not getting high anymore so I'd appreciate it if you don't call back. Thank you."

Click.

Next time you see their name or number on your caller ID, don't answer it. Most of these people are calling just in hopes that you have picked up again. No, they don't give a damn about you. But don't let these people get to you. They simply aren't worth it. I remember something my Mom told me when I was a kid and it applies to so many areas of life, if someone sees you getting upset by something they are doing, then they are going to continue to do it. These people are miserable and remember, misery loves company! Just don't give them the satisfaction of hearing the anger in your voice. If you do, they're going to keep calling.

I need to find you one of my favorite tshirts that I have, it says:

Mean People Suck.

So do those who don't have our best interests at heart.

But you know that everyone here on SR cares a great deal about you. Don't give the a$$holes the time of day. They simply aren't worth it!

I missed ya girl,
Judy

Wish I could. But my phone is not fancy. It is an old prepaid cell. CAnt block numbers.
Thank goodness for caller ID tho. I dont have to pick it up.
But they leave messages. And it just aggravates me.
Calling me stuttering and high. Just to see what they can get out of someone.
I already know how it goes.

Until I decide to get a new one. I cant change the number or anyhting. Its one of those ones you buy at Walmart.
I will probably go to the AT&T store and see what prepaid phones thay have. I have been wanting a new one for awhile now.
I need prepaid tho. I dont use it enough to have a contract.
I know they have some nice prepaid phones in the stores.
I want one with a camera and a full keyboard. LOL
Maybe in a couple months.
It will be my present to myself maybe when I get my taxes.

Plus most of my family has AT&T. So calls to them will be free. T-Mobile sucks.

((Trish))

When they call, if it's a flip phone, just open it and close it righ back (in other words answer then hang up). That way they can't leave a message and maybe they'll GET the message. If you do it like that, most people think it's something wrong with the phone...they don't think they've been hung up on. They'll get frustrated and stop calling..especially if they're high.

just a thought.

Hugs and prayers!

Everytime my old using buddies would call me I'd talk about recovery, accountability, honesty, One Day at a Time. Whenever they'd whine, endlessly (like I used to!) about how much life sucked, I'd say "And what are you doing to about it today?" Nothing sent them skittering away quicker!

I actually wasn't trying to get rid of them...I was still way to co-dependent for that...I had found a real, tangible solution and I honestly thought others would follow. Not a one did.
