new guy- day 1 Thursday

well, im mid 40s age- i have been drinking for 25 years. mostly moderate, but the last 10 have been a lot. from 25 yrs old- 35 did a crapload of other things (bad stuff) was in a really successful rock band and exposed to things and got sucked in- but i take the responsibility cause its mine. havent touched anything but alcohol for 15 yrs. but I drink a bit and it pisses everyone off...... my family has confronted me, and well deserved. there you have it. thats me. new here- and i think this is a cool forum. planning to stop drinking (which is my last crutch sort of). lets see.....

Hey dedubya

Welcome... Do you road bike or mountain. I'm 51 and have been a cyclist (road) since college. Last 15 years up until last 1-2 pretty serious, like you, increasing my mileage is a New Years resolution. But my climate is different from yours. I have a good trainer though for the snow days... but I'd rather ski on those days...

Good luck with your new sobriety... keep coming back !

Mark

Hi Dedubya, and welcome! I glad you have decided to change your life for the better! Also as far as what you mentioned about your brain flipping out a little when you stop I can relate to that. Didn't happen to me when I stopped drinking, but when i quit smoking dope... n yeah it scared the crap outta me too, but it gets so much better the longer you go. I actually read a lot on the internet about it and smoking dope and drinking affects the same area of your brain.

The reason your brain "flips out" when you stop is because your brain chemistry is gradually adjusting back to being used to being sober rather than high/drunk. Give it time and it will be back to normal, i started taking vitamin supplements to help speed up the process. Omega oils and B vitamins help a lot i was able to notice more of an improvement than normal within a few days until i didn't "flip" out anymore. N yeah biking is an awesome idea, exercise always helps !

Welcome. This is a great place to spend your evening sober. Wish you well.

Give it a chance. Make a commitment. Then open up and use us here.

I know if it weren't for the people here I wouldn't be signing off on Day 11 right now.

Hello and Welcome to SR Dedubya,

As the others have stated this is a great forum. You are in the right place to open up that is for sure. You have shown a lot of courage already by sharing a bit of your story here and being open to the fact that you may be in need of something different whatever that maybe. I know it was an eyeopener for me and I will say to you like I say to those that want to listen, if I can get a handle on myself and have the hope, willingness and openness to change trust me my friend I feel we all can. Please feel free to keep sharing and ask any questions you may have. You will find we are honest and helpful here as we all share the same plight.

JT
