Teen Looking for Guidance

Hi

My name is John, and I am in my late teens. I have been living with an alcoholic for 18 years, whom is my father, along with my mother. Me and my mother have been holding on, as Christians, to learn how to deal with each day. He is verbally abusive, and its gotten to the point where its getting old and we are tired of hearing his mouth. He is stubborn and selfish and doesn't take into consideration that he is causing emotional.

I am here to gain guidance and suggestions of how to get through living with an alcoholic father.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried looking at the Friends and Family forum - there are many in the same position.

My grandmother stayed with my violent, alkie grandfather for many years longer than she should have because of the Christian "I am my brother's keeper".

But Jesus also said "Love each other as you love yourself." Not more than you love yourself. Just saying, you and your mum deserve the same compassion as your father does. Not less.

Also Alanon and Alateen - have you ever tried them. They help so many people.
