I experienced something that made me sad today

I work in a hotel cleaning rooms.

One room I went to make the guys bed and he had a wet towel in the bed. So I pull it out and then felt to see how wet the rest of the bed was. In case it needed to be changed.

Well when I did it was completely soaked. Then th esmell hit me.

The guy urinated in the entire bed. Pillows and all. I dont mean just a little spot. I mean the whole entire bed and pillows were dripping wet.

His trash cans were overflowing with many empty beer cans and an empty gallon size bottle of Jim Beam.

Firts I was mad. Cause that was just nasty and I got his pee all over my hands and arm.

But as I was cleaning. I saw his ID badge I am guessing for work. And the guy looked like a very respectable business man.

Then my thoughts automatically came here to SR. The stories I have read of my SR family and what they have been through.
My anger turned to sadness.

So I cleaned his room real good..Threw all his empties away. And made his bed extra nice for him.

It just hurt my heart to see that.

I dont know why..But I just had to share that.

In my previous life, that man was me, glad you saw in your heart that he was just another one of God's kids suffering. Hold him in prayer.

In my first AA meeting....the speaker shared that he used to
hole up in hotels ...bringing lots of booze and a shower
curtin. The shower curtin was for the matress
as he too soaked the bed.

He was a lawyer ..worked for a famous Senator
during both his drinking and recovery.

I'd never heard of anyone doing such things...

I'm glad you were kind to another who suffers.

Blimey. I did that for the first time since being 3 yrs old, last week...mortified!

Until I woke in that bed, I was absurdly proud of the other 'Yet' I'd achieved that night...being so drunk that having the sh1t kicked out of me by a random stranger was funny...at the time.

Needed to 'fess up to that one,

cheers folks

(((Trish))) - I, too, look at things like this, in a whole different light since my own addiction and coming to SR. No longer is someone just a "drunk, homeless person, bum, etc."...they are people with others who care about them, they are struggling , and they may very well be someone who ends up on SR...we can always hope.

You have a big heart, sweetie...something I've always liked about you.

Hugs and prayers!

Amy

Trish,

The compassion you showed for that man today, was not only being kind to him, but a big step in your recovery.

It hurts to see things like this, especially when some of us have been there. But no longer suffer that kind of life.

In my second treatment we always but the right foot into the circle for the addict left out still suffering today.

Like others I commend you for what you did today. I have also been there and done that only to wake up totally mortified.

Nowadays it bothers me to see the town drunk (I live in a small town) in the mornings when he is obviously hungover and hurting or when he is lit and happy. Either way I at times want to reach out and tell him that he doesn't have to live this way, that there is a solution. But I know that is not what we do. I remember that it is a program of attraction and not promotion and if I go approaching people who do not ask for help I love any chance of being any help to them in the present and very possibly in the future.

While I can only imagine how distasteful it had to have been to clean up after someone in that matter I really admire you for looking beyond that and seeing the alcoholic who is obviously in the grips of this horrible disease. You did great!

Hugs,
Kellye

The shock, anger, realization, then compassion..and hurt.

I felt it all in the telling.

I've been there.

Thank you for sharing, Chiy, and for your action and compassion.

Your story and your compassionate response to the unpleasant situation brings to my mind the following words. "whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for ME."

God bless
