Hello, Nick. Welcome to SR. Hang around for a while and keep reading and posting. Trying to be sober is tough. Don't give up.

Is there a good friend or someone close to you that you can call and talk to now? You have a lot to deal with...maybe you can find someone to talk to about it.

I wish you well. :wavey: I'll probably be on SR at some point later.

Nick...sorry things are so rough right now....

Yep...alchohol was the answer to all my problems for a long time...even though it didn't work real well and added to the problems.

I went to detox and my dad died while I was there....got drunk as soon as I got out and took another year and a bunch of bad health issues before I got sober.

reading and posting here at SR you will see daily that there are other answers than alchohol that work a lot better...It isn't always easy..especially at the start....but well worth it in the long term...

I'm pretty happy with things today and there are sometimes weeks at a time that I am extatic!!!!!! :ghug

:)

It's okay...I've posted here when I've not been sober or attempting recovery.

The people at SR will be here when you need to vent. If you stick around long enough, you might find that you'll gain the strength you need to quit. :wavey:

Hi,

I believe that drinking is a symptom.

So, stopping drinking alone, is only the beginning of the process of recovery.

I hope you find your way back and begin to discover what you can do to lead a peaceful life.

Ananda 12-15-2008 05:46 AM

the first step to getting sober is staying alive long enough to get there.....

Keep posting and reading :ghug

We'll be here when you're ready to stop drinking. Until then, be careful - this disease will take your soul along with all your possessions.:a043:

Welcome back Nick,

I am so sorry about your dad. You mentioned him in your first post here on SR. You considered him to be recovered. He must have found something appealling in recovery and held onto it.

Please be careful. Alcohol is a cunning liar. It whispers seductively that it is your friend and understands your pain.

Both of my parents died too soon from cancer. Alcohol whispered to me that since I was going to die anyway, I might as well choose my poison and go out on my terms.

Nick, Alcohol is a liar. I have too much life left in me to go out in a drunken stupor. I want to feel my pain, so that I can grow in strength and compassion for myself and others in my life. I want to be loved and I want to give love. I want to be respected and I want to behave responsibly.

I want to live my life.

Keep reading and posting as you are able. We care about you.
You have my deepest sympathy. :ghug3

You have a strong will to live in spite of yourself, Nick, or you wouldn't be posting at all. There's a spark still glowing inside you - when you stop drinking and grow strong again it will burn bright. Not right away, of course. I posted, cried, and drank here for 5 mos. before finally surrendering. I did it, though - after 25 yrs. of heavy binging. Sending you love and hope.

I'm sorry for the loss of your Dad...

I did quit working in the hospitality industry
because I was not staying sober

I certainly hope you will soon begin to enjoy
an alcohol free life...:yup:
