just looking for support

I was sober for about 5 years. Well about 4 months ago I picked up. I just can't seem to get on track. You know this disease is just in there sleeping until you feed it, and it is out about in full force. I am not drinking everyday yet. The anxiety I have the day after drinking is enough to keep me from drinking for a few days. But then about day 3 or 4 I will start to have cravings. They are so horrible. I think about where I was 5 years ago (a nightmare) how I never want to be that again. The anxiety I will have the next day, how I really don't even like how alcohol makes me feel. But that craving always wins. My heart starts beating so fast, my stomach is in knots, all I want is that drink.

You'll suffer no lack of support here, peactiff. Welcome.

May I ask how you got sober five years ago?

Peace & Love,
Sugah

Welcome Peacetiff! :ghug

Thank you for posting this. THIS is sometimes what keeps me sober. I am so afraid of it not being so easy to come back. So, what kept you sober for 5 years? Have you started writing? Contacted any sober friends? I know that relapse behavior starts long before you pick up the drink, so have you looked at this as well?

Sorry to bombard you with all these questions ;)
But one more,
were you involved in a program of recovery?

Welcome Peacetiff! Glad you're here. Just because you've relapsed, doesn't mean you have to drink today. Or even think about 3 days, 4 days, or 5 years!

Just don't drink today. Hang here with us and tell us more about yourself.

Hi,

I agree with you that this disease is sleeping and lurking and waiting for us to weaken. It seems like you are at a point where you need to face the anxiety head on, and get through it, and get back on track. You know how to do this, and you CAN do it!

did you have any form of recovery program then?

good wishes
