Just posted exactly the same thing on another thread. Good job mate. Lots of things free today, castles, Zoo's, sea life centres etc. I can I persuade my kids to go anywhere !!!!! If it was costing me £30 they'd be in the car like a shot !!!!!!!! If the Zoo is free today, do they just feed the animals less ???? |

You know, I've been doing a bit of reading this morning and I must say I'm very proud to belong to a country with such a rich, proud and ancient history. St. Andrew became the patron Saint of Scotland in the middle of the 10th Century, so we're talking about the year nine hundred and something. :eek: The Scottish flag, the Saltire is based on the cross that was used to crucify St. Andrew, it was an X-shaped cross. My city, Glasgow, has its roots as far back as the 6th century AD and was even before that a fishing settlement which thrived on the fish-rich waters of the river Clyde. Not really a history person, but I find some of this stuff fascinating! |

Went to Stirling Castle, ok it was free to get in but I spent £30 in the book shop. Not an expert RK but I quite like reading about our history. If you get the chance, visit Culloden, very eerie and makes you think, from my surname I'd have been a Jacobite but going from where I live and you even more so, we could well have been on the Redcoat ( supposidly English side but when you look into it a lot of the troops were Scots ) army. Bought a Nigel Tranter trilogy today about Robert Bruce and another of his books about William Wallace. Recommend Tranter as an author, he writes about historical events but puts ficticious characters in as well to make the books great to read. |

My maiden name was Brydon, and I know my father's heritage was Scottish; but, I don't know any more than that, because my mother left him when I was about nine years old. However, I've always been proud to know there's a bit of Scot in me. I even named one of my son's Scott Andrew...although I'm pretty sure my mom has no idea why. I thought it was pretty clever of me. In 1996, I was fortunate to visit your beautiful country when I took a tour through Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. I even ate haggis...it tastes much better than it looks (or sounds)! My kids had a piper at their dad's funeral services even though his family background is Irish and English...maybe they're proud of that side of their heritage, too. |
